about an hour ago my dog was hit my a car. we brought him to the hospital. he has to say over night but he should be ok. the car that hit him didn't even come to our door and tell us what happened. my sister saw it but she is too young to think of looking at the cars plate numbers. so if you hit a dog/cat or any animal that was someones pet and did not tell them (hit and run) would you feel guilty/bad about it. im asking cause i want to know if some people are actually compassionate. personally i hope who ever hit him is feeling really horrible. if they came to the door and just told us what happened i wouldn't be as mad. ******* asshole (sorry) im still shaking and feel like im gonna throw up over what happened.

Personally, if I hit someones dog, I would definitely tell them. Because they would have to pay the repair bill on my vehicle for any damage that the animal did. If your dog was contained, you wouldn't have to worry about someone hitting it with a car.

My guilt would depend on the situation. I hit a dog last week, not hard. I slammed on my brakes as soon as I saw it crossing the street, it was running off by the time I could get my car completely stopped, and I couldn't find it. I felt BAD for a while, but I did what I could. I didn't feel guilty because I did what I could to stop and also find the dog after wards.
But YOUR dog and any other dog shouldn't be out where they can get hit. I know sometimes dogs get loose, even from responsible owners, and I would feel terrible if I hit a dog in that case. This wasn't the case when I hit the dog last week. I almost hit the same dog again yesterday with another dog in tow.
Yes, the driver should have stopped, but if the dog wasn't out it wouldn't have happened, and if the dog got up and ran home or away from the road, the driver might have thought it wasn't hurt that bad. Two wrongs don't make a right, but you are partially at fault here, for letting your dog be in harms way.

Well I wouldn't hit an animal ever, but if he came out and was going really fast in a hurry and hit the animal then I would get out the car check if it has a coller if so I would take it to the vet then go to the owners house and say what happened then I would feel kinda guilty not really but I bet the person thought your dog was a stray and didn't even think about getting out and checking on the dog but yes I would feel a little guilty if I accidenlty ran over an animal.

I'm so sorry about your dog!!

Of course the person should have stopped and told you what happened, and offered to help. Anyone would be afraid to stop, sure, and would prefer to drive off and put the whole problem behind them. But wanting to do something and doing it are two different things. A good and decent person SHOULD and WOULD stop and talk to you.

If it makes you feel any better, the person who did it probably does feel guilty and is also probably worried that maybe someone saw them and knows what they did. Forget about them and just take care of yourself, since you've had a big shock!

I hope everything is OK with your dog :)

Oh my gosh! That's really scary! I'm sorry that your friend got hurt, but I'm glad that he's going to be okay. I would DEFINITELY feel guilty! I wouldn't even be able to drive away! But maybe the person freaked out... maybe they didn't drive away to be cruel. That happened to a girl I know. She hit a cat, and she just freaked out. She drove all the way to another friend's house, and that person went and told the owner for her. The girl that hit the cat just couldn't go to the person and look her in the face and tell her that the cat was hit by a car...

I hope your little friend is better soon!

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. My upstairs neighbors had a pit bull when I was in high school and he got out one day and was hit by a car right in front of the house and he died in my arms. The person who hit him took off and nobody was able to get the plates for the car. My heart goes out to you completely because I understand exactly how you feel. I wish that people in general were more compassionate and responsible when it came to situations like this. All we can hope is that karma comes around full circle to that person and that they get a taste of their gross lack of compassion.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I hope he makes a fast recovery. Honestly, dog/cat lovers and owners would probably stop and try to do something. You would. Most of the people who visit this section would also. But some people just dont care, or they are embarassed. I once thought I ran over a group of ducklings following their mother. It was a gravel road and I didnt see them until I was right there. I stopped the car and looked and looked....but I didnt see anything. But I didnt feel right all day.

Once again...hope your dog gets better soon.

Guilt might not be the issue. It could have been the loose dog's fault, not the car driver. The dog should not be on the street!

But feel very bad, yes. But I think if they didn't stop they still might feel bad. Maybe they aren't even sure if they hit him.
But the most important thing is to keep your dog from getting loose again.

That's terrible. Whomever hit your dog should have stopped and let you know. It was an accident I'm sure, but that makes them look bad to not care enough to stop. It's not totally their fault if the dog was in the street, but they should have stopped. I'm so sorry for your animal. Good luck.

The fault falls on the dog's owner, not the car. If the dog had been restrained as required by law, it wouldn't have been hit. The car driver can actually sue your family, and win, for any damage the dog caused to his car.

I would be angry at the person who hit my dog for not stopping to tell me...but after the initial anger, I would be angry at myself for not having my dog in a fenced yard or at least safe from getting in the street. I don't mean to sound harsh but as a pet owner it is your responsibility to make sure he cant get into the street....Congratulations on him being ok!!! Hopefully the driver will feel bad, you will have learned that doggie needs a fence and doggie hopefully will have learned that cars are only good if they are parked....
