I thought the legal age was 21 for all states, but then I found this government website.
http://alcoholpolicy.niaaa.nih.gov/index.asp?Type=BAS_APIS&SEC={5FAC6464-DD33-408F-A20E-D0611E93DE31}&DE={527EFF01-B475-4F3F-999A-F9B6B8BAFF30}
It was updated in 2006 and it says that theres no prohibition. As far as I know, you have to be 21. My girlfriend used to have people that were 21 drive from Connecticut to New York on Sundays to buy alcohol (package stores are closed in Connecticut on Sunday.) We just assumed you had to be 21, we've never tried purchasing it ourselves, however.

Ok, so thanks for the answers those who actually went to this website.
Maybe I should have added this- what the hell does that map imply when it says theres no prohibition? Two of you said that theres exceptions for religions ceremonies and such, but that isn't for New York. The exceptions applied to several other states, but New York is marked as No Prohibition.
