Safely, you can consider 1-2 lbs a week. So in theory, you could hit the 25 benchmark in that time with no slips in diet and work out. Just remember when your weight loss slows down, do different work out routines.

About the best thing you can do, is visit a gym and get a personal trainer. There's plenty of things you can do to lose weight faster. But, most of those tricks to lose weight faster actually make you lose water or muscle, not fat. What makes losing muscle a bad thing, is that it's muscle that uses fat. In other words, the less muscle you have the less fat you burn.
A good strength training program and healthy diet will make you look better faster. Honestly, I'm sure that you're trying to lose weight to look better. That should be your goal rather then the number on the scale. While you're looking for a gym, make sure you find one that bases your ideal weight of your individual body fat percentage and lean body weight rather then just some chart that doesn't apply to everyone. For instance, most charts indicate I should weigh 117-122. But, my lean body weight before I even started working out was 140. Lean body weight is what your body weighs without any fat!

Yes. Be sure to eliminate SODA and MAYONNAISE from your diet.
Eat extra fruits and veggies, and don't eat 'fried' anything! Only eat the baked potato or salad at fast food places.
Eat non-fat yogurt, which is good for you, and comes in many decent flavors.
Don't exceed the recommended portion sizes of meats or bread/rice/pasta
Only eat healthy cereals (Shredded Wheat, Cheerios, Oatmeal) with 1% milk.
Drink lots of water and fruit juices, also some V8 juice

Walk, outdoors, every day, and increase the length of your walk each week.

Watch the early AM exercise shows on TV (PBS or other channels)

Take out library books on Beginner's Yoga and Beginner's Aerobics

Swim, play sports, go hiking, etc.

Good luck--my son lost a lot of weight, and rather quickly, by doing most of the above.

its healthy to lose 1-2lbs a week - if you are losing more then most likely its not fat you are losing but water weight and muscle and slowing down your metabolism which means you will gain it all back.
so it would be healthy to lose 8-20lbs
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

The Atkins diet might do it, but might not, unless you also have 3-4 times a week strenous phyical workouts.

You can loose that amount of weight without hurting your body but not much more. I would recommend eating food with low fat but you need fat or you won't loose that much weight. You should also exercise alot, I would recommend karate. You will lose weight but I won't promise you to loose weight that fast.
