Because Allah forbid us to use alcohol. I dont see or feel the need to become inebriated and make a complete jackass out of myself for entertainment. There are more entertaining and healthier ways to entertain oneself.

Alcohol has been mentioned as the source of all evil. It leaves the person incapable of doing anything correctly. It does not drown any of your griefs or problems. DUI cases have rocketed around the world and the worst thing after driving while drunk is to get hit by a drunkard. Alcohol preparation/fermentation itself is harmful to those around the brewery.

Islam lays the guidelines for a successful healthy life. You can only take the horse to a lake but you cannot make it drink - Similary Islam can only show the way but cannot make you follow it. Those who take Islam for a ride by drinking are obviously hypocrites in action. God has forbidden it in the Quran - “They ask you regarding wine and gambling. Say, in both of them is major sin, and there is some benefit for men, but the sin of them is far greater than benefit ”
(Surah Baqarah)

Some attribute the rule to something that may, or may not, have been said by Mohammad.

The most probable reason for this belief is the chosen interpretation of the Q'uran by various mullahs, who have always held very powerful community positions, and who, over the years, made it law within their communities . The people knew nothing else, so they took the belief with them as the communities expanded.

The book that provides all the rules that govern Islam is the Q'uran, and it says that intoxication is wrong. It does not say consumption of alcohol is prohibited.

Islam forbids putting anything into your body that doesn't do anything for you.. Alcohol isnt something that your body has to have, it just harms your body.. As for Muslims who drink, God gave us freewill to choose what we do.. If you believe that it is okay to drink alcohol then do so, but we will all be judged in the end, what if it is truly forbidden, what to do then....

I have a lot of young Muslim friends and they all drink more than I do. If I didn't hang around with them I think I'd be teetotal.

I'm not kidding btw. The funny thing is that one of them lectures me about how clever Islam is to prohibit the evils of alcohol and he's the one that usually asks me to go halves with him on a bottle of Smirnoff or Jack Daniels.

I think basically because it is a mind altering substance, and the Koran probably has a prohibition against using mind altering substance because it can cause one to lose inhibitions and prevents one from being as close to Allah.
