My acoustic guitar is from the '70s. It does not have a strap. Is there a strap that I can get that attaches to it? Or do I have to break down and get a new one?

And it doesn't have the nuts to attach any strap to.

An 40 year old acoustic guitar would only have a plastic button at the bottom to attach a stap, the other end would have attached with basically a strings around the headstock.
For the most part, it would be improper to add 2 strap buttons. If there,s not one at the bottom you can add one, that one won't harm the value of your guitar.

If you want to use everyday modern guitar straps, just use a product like this to be able to attach the strap to the headstock.

If you do need a strap button to attach the strap to the bottom of the guitar (also a good replacement for a plastic one!), it looks like this.

That was easy!

I have a 1952 Gibson LG-3 parlor guitar (the one I learned on) and for years I tied the front end around the headstock under the strings. Long shoe laces work wonders in tying the strap at the head. Years later, a strap button was installed at the neck heel.

Any guitar/music store will have "strap buttons" that screw on to the neck heel. The bottom of the guitar should have an end buttton, if it is missing then you can get that too. You can also get a strap that ties on to the head instead of a button. The buttons only cost a couple of bucks.

Any strap will fit it. If the guitar doesnt have the nuts to secure the strap onto, take it to a local music store and they can fix you up.

They don't make a strap to fit a guitar that old anymore.
