Fearing God is not what fear usually means, as in being afraid of. Fearing God means to love Him, Honor Him, and Know He knows best, and to know that if we dont serve HIm, we will not receive the blessings He longs to bestow upon us. Obedeience leads to blessing and disobedeince leads to curse. Yes, one must fear God as it leads to obedience. We want to be saved and not lost. But we dont serve God from fear of hell. we serve God because we love Him. BIg difference. Fearing God is like respecting and honoring Him. Its like a child needs to fear a parent in a healthy way, not afraid of abuse. But, they need to know, love , honor and respect their parents, so they will do what they say. and a littl ehealthy fear is a good thing. Not abusive fear, but fear of having to be diciplined, and wanting to do whats right because it is the right thing to do.

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools [The Hebrew words rendered fool in Proverbs, and often elsewhere in the Old Testament, denote a person who is morally deficient.] despise wisdom and instruction.

This ethic is that wisdom is within anybody's reach. It doesn't just belong to those specially educated in a secular sense. This is wisdom in the Bible. Proverbs 29:20 - "Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them." Proverbs 10:10 - "Whoever winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin." Galatians 6:7 says basically that you reap what you sow. Romans 8 says that if you sow with a view to the Spirit, you reap a spirit that is alive due to righteousness, but if you sow with a view to the flesh, you reap death.

With this attitude, you can follow Christian commans such as in 1 Peter 4:8, 9. "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling."

To fear God is to recognize that escaping temporal justice does not constitute a permanent escape from justice. You might want to kill someone; you might have the opportunity to do so without any potential for detection. You still would not do so. Even barring serios crime, sinfulness is always at a price,in this world or the next.

I am a Southern Baptist. of all my people. grandparents parents, aunts, uncles. cousins.brothers.who are all fine Christians. i have never heard anyone say they feared God .i believe i might have heard that expression in a church once though.
I personally fear nothing at all.fear will hinder a person in there spiritual progress as it will cut a person off from the guidance of the holy spirit . because we need to have faith and love not fear and doubt.Faith is what opens a person to the spirit of Gods influence.without total undoubting faith in God and in ourselves then we cant grow as we should.I wish you the best, please . never fear. have a simple faith. like a mustard seed has. pure and without any doubt.then miracles can take place in your life and thru you to others.as it has in mine .faith will open you to the power of the spirit .it will work thru you.if you have faith.

WE fear God in that we respect Him and actknowledge His power. We know we are worthless and insignificant, unworthy to be in HIs presence.

But we also know of GOD's great love and mercy. He overlooks our failures and spares us HIs wrath and power so we can be with Him.

The Word of God says that the fear of the Lord is the Beginning of knowledge.

I do not fear God.

I see God as my friend, my companion, my confidant, the sharer of my longings and my trusted friend.

Yes, I do think it is sad to fear God.

Rejoice in God. Rejoice in your ability to feel the spark of the Divine within you. That spark is the best part of you. And should not be feared but brought out into the open for everyone to see and experience.

i dont fear god because i dont believe in myths. christians need this fear to perpetuate their dogma. without the fear no one would bother to follow. of,course, the fear fades when it becomes inconvenient for them-such as working on sunday, lying,or other commonly broken commandments.

it's all a matter of getting the big picture;that's when freedom from this fear is lifted and you become one step closer to happiness.

and before anyone tells me i will go to hell for saying this-i don't believe in it either :)

The fear of God is not a fear like one would have of being attacked by a dog, or something...it is a humbling fear that make us want to be obedient.
