cervical cancer. Medicare didn't know. They said to ask my provider. I said, 'how will they know, if Medicare doens't know?'
I didn't get any response.

Then I was referred to the cancer society. Medicare said they would know. And they are closed till tomorrow.
In the meantime, does anyone know?

Guardisil is currently not on the list of Medicare covered drugs. However, it is covered with most Medicare Advantage plans and stand alone Part D plans. Depending upon the plan you might be on the co-pay you'll pay will range from $20 to $138 for 1 vial.

Guardisil is only recommended for young women between from 9 - 26. I doubt Medicare will put the vaccine on it's list of approved drugs for this reason alone, since Medicare is for people 65 and older.

MediCARE does not cover it because the elderly are beyond the age that it's recommended for.

MediCAID does cover it in New York, but you need to check with your own state. Call your caseworker if you're not sure.

I'm not sure... I got mine for free. I do know that it hurts a lot, and I get needles all the time so I'm fairly used to them. Make sure that you keep moving your arm afterwards otherwise it will go really really stiff and sore. And be prepared for some side effects like lethargy and tiredness. I had to do a Biology test right after mine and I could hardly keep my eyes open!

No, it's too new, and it only prevents ONE type of cervical cancer. It hasn't made it to the lists yet. Maybe next year . . .
