do you lie to them and tell them there is no such thing as a bogeyman? or do you tell them that there is a bogeyman and his name is satan? and if they aren't careful god will send them into a lake of fire, and not even he will help them?

the point of the question is that there obviously is no bogeyman. so why do we pretend there is one when we talk about one who tempts us into doing bad things?

Why just Christians?

Are Christian children the only ones who conceive the boogeyman? I went to school with a lot of people who weren't Christians, and they they thought of the boogeyman when they were in Kindergarten.

Wow, this is a skewed view of life.

Psalm 4:8
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

The way to resist Satan, according to the Bible, is to submit to God, change your laughter to mourning and he will lift you up. (James 4:7-10) Besides that, contrary to convention wisdom, the Bible says that a sad face is good for the heart... (and that a little wine is good for the stomach, but not for kids!) This is in Ecclesiastes 7, which also says that the day of death is better than the day of birth because (?) a good name is better than fine perfume. "Death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart."

Habakkuk 2:12-14 says: "Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed and establishes a town by injustice! Has not the LORD Almighty determined that the people's labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing? For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea." This gives some sort of background to the Psalms where people weep all night. Psalms 6 says: "I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes." What reason is there to get up for somebody else's say-so the next morning? Zephaniah 3:5 says: "The LORD within her is righteous; he does no wrong. Morning by morning he dispenses his justice, and every new day he does not fail, yet the unrighteous know no shame."

Going back to my original point, the Bible says that Satan flees if you resist him. He doesn't just hang around no matter what.

Foolishness proceeds out of your mouth, and nothing more. The "boogeyman" is a learned thing, designed to scare children, and nothing more.
My children know all about Satan, the father of lies.
My children know about Christ, who delivers us from the powers of Satan.
They know about the lake of fire, and what it takes to NOT go there.

So, to clear the air, my children are never convinced that there is a boogeyman in their room, as they were never taught this ridiculous idea.

Thank you, and God bless you.

Good grief, no parent who loves their children would make light of their fears (real or imagined) or tell them such lies that Jesus Christ is some all-powerful monster who is hovering over them and waiting to toss them into the Lake of Fire for fun.

When my children had nightmares or fears in the night, I did not try to rationalize their fears or dismiss them. I went after the fear with extreme prejudice. I or my husband went in, turned on all the lights and told them, "Jesus is stronger than Superman. Watch these evil monsters run!!!," as I threw open closet doors & jerked the dust ruffle up to the top of the bed. "They are ALL afraid of Jesus. In the name of Jesus, He commands you demons, monsters, bogeymen to get out of this room and this house and do not return."

Then I dusted off my hands, while together we checked out all the closets and under the bed and I said, "Seeeeeee! All gone! I told you they were afraid to mess with Super Jesus!"

My kids never forgot that & over the years, got into the spirit of it with younger sibs and would charge in with me and do the "monster cleaning" themselves after that.

I teach my children that there is an enemy and that without God's grace we would be condemned. I never ever lie to them. I live my life as an example they can follow and I certainly will not make a mockery of GOD or our enemy, thought they are very real, as your statement certainly seems to. I tell my children what teh Word of GOD says. If HE is for us, Who can be against us? God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of Power love and a Sound mind. No matter what causes them to be afraid, I lwet them know that GOD is always there. HE will never leave them, they can always look to Him and know He wil protect them. They can trust in Him and they have nothing to fear.

Satan tries to scare and deceive the young ones, when they are children. But, contrary to what some denominational beliefs teach. This is just another trick, to indoctrinate individuals into a system of religions, when they are young.

Now I'm not saying dont take your kids to chruch. What I am saying is to let kids be kids, and teach them the ways of the Lord.

Because, a baby, and children are all shelter in the arms of God. Until they reach an age of accountability. And this age of accountability various for each individual.

This age of accountability can be seen in James 4:17; Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Even Jesus the God-man, when he was a baby, a child, he himself, had to learn to resist evil and chose the good.

In the Prophecy concerning Jesus, we read, in Isaiah 7:14-15.

Pay close attention to verse 15.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Note) Immanuel in the original means - God is with us.

Here's verse 15; Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

So, we tell them the truth. But, assure them they are safe in the arms of God.

The Bible tells us to raise our children in the ways of the Lord, and they will not depart when they are old (or) older.

For Satan and his minions are real, and they manifest themselves in various forms. They are not just a figment of someones nightmare or imagination. Even though Hollywood has done such, that its hard for someone to believe Satan aka - the Devil and his minions (fallen angels) really exist.

The Bogeyman of anyones youth, as a child, should show them there is something evil and sinister lurking in the spiritual darkness of this world - Or your children closets!

PS: Lets remember; 2 Corinthians 4:3-4; But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

In whom the god of this world (Satan) hath blinded the "minds" of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them

That why the Apostle Paul says... we wrestle not against flesh and blood; But against principalties and powers...

The word powers in the original means active physical or mental strength. With this being a spiritual battle that is not against flesh and blood (thats not of the physical) it brings to understanding that this is a battle of one (Satan) and his mental abilities.

And his weapons of warfare are for the most part, his psychological abilities.

The same powers that was used in Peter, when Jesus said to Peter - Get thee behind me Satan...

Now, Jesus wasnt calling Peter Satan. But he was addressing the one who manipulated Peters thought or thinking process and caused him to rebuke Jesus.

Weird question. Turn on the lights. Read the book "There's a Monster in My Closet" and give them whatever comfort they need. Oh, and my boogey man was a witch that lived in the quicksand under my bed. But that was decades ago.
