im catholic by birth

but i hate religion

maybe its got something to do with me being homosexual, i dont know

but i've been aethist ever since i was 9.

my parents dont approve, and im sick of everyone telling me that god says i should "repent my sins".
whatever.
as far as im concerned, how can someone talk in the name god?

religion is evil in my own opinion. you don't have to agree. it just makes everything difficult.

war, violence, you name it

thats my crappy 2 cents
:)

why are some of you telling me what god wants me to do if you dont even know what god wants in the first place? its not like you even know what god is like. i mean, who IS he?
some of you who are devout i feel are very close-minded. just because im aethist doesn't mean im stupid and bad and evil.

and yes im interested in this because i realized the impact of religion and what its doing. (i recently came out i was homosexual and church goers are telling me to repent, otherwise i'll go to hell)

Religion & Religous Beliefs:

I feel that religion has been the source of all mis-understanding about behavior, beliefs, sexuality, gender differences, attraction, and sexual preferences.

WHY?

Because ever since the birth of established or institutional religions, the promoters of those religious beliefs and doctrines, have used it to arbitrarily coerce, dictate, moralize, and legislate human behavior in all its' facets.

I am not sick of religion. Not in any way. I find a great deal of personal comfort, meaning, and strength in my faith. I, too, am Catholic by birth, and have chosen to remain Catholic. Being gay and Catholic is a difficult thing, and I have several friends who are going through that, so I'm sympathetic. They have chosen to remain Catholic. I will not presume to speak for God, because I can't do that. It would violate the Christian humility that Catholics are taught to have. Instead, I will say that I can understand your decision to leave the Church, although it is not a choice that I would have made personally, and that if you should ever decide to return, the doors are always open. If you choose not to, then that is your decision. Peace be with you.

Religon is not evil. . . People are evil. none of hte Books are evil its the kind've people that twist and turn every verse to try to make their own point. the ones that regardless to the other persons feelings will say something cruel because they think their speaking for God. whent heyre NOT! People need to stop hiding behind theyre computers tryin to be crusaders. let God be the Judge of us. and relgion doesn't make anything difficult its people! i dont think if The bible and the Quran were placed next to each other they would announce a war against each other because the are Books. but if you placed two Know-it-all relgious people each "representing" their book in the same room theyd prlly tear each others heads off. well i just felt like saying that!

No. we stay in an practically completely secularized society now, the position God is seldom reported or theory-about. IMO we want to take heed to extra - and by no ability in ordinary words listen extra, yet heavily evaluate it. I truly do not comprehend the position you're coming from with this. i easily see or listen little or no factor out of what you're speaking about contained in the overall well-known accepted custom. convinced, you could pass to Sunday church, bible study communities, or talk with fellow believers, yet i'm speaking about the perfect custom at tremendous. in truth i might want to assert that for most television classes, videos, and so on., maximum issues non secular in nature are taboo to elevate or talk of.... form of like what the issue of sex replaced into again contained in the 1950's. that's one rationalization why I study replies on the following and answer questions about R&S. that's between the few public forums the position human beings brazenly talk faith and such issues as end situations, and so on.

I'm not sick of religion. I am sad that religion is used so often to oppress and try to guilt people into or away from certain behaviors, particularly sexual orientation.

I have worked in churches and synagogues for 37 years. I have known my share of gay clergy. I am sorry this has happened to you.

And you are right, no one can talk in the name of God. If they believe they know the mind of God, then I say their God is too small.

I'm sorry that so many people are "shoulding" on you. That's not right. I won't should on you.

I do care about you as a human being though. I'm not being condescending or patronising, but I pray that God does show his true self to you in your life. May you have people in your life that love you as he loves you.

Religion is man-made.
I don't think God cares about religion but he does care about knowing you.

I agree, actually. It causes too many un-needed conflicts. If there was a god, do you think he'd be pleased watching people suffer on his account? Yeah... I don't think so. People can believe in their little imaginary friends all they want, but I won't be part of it.

i have no problem with religion in general. if it helps some people cope with life's problems better and they believe that it helps them lead better lives, then fine.

it only becomes a problem when you get the fundamentalists who run around judging everyone and trying to convert them. religion, when taken literally can be dangerous. when viewed with an open mind and an open heart, i have no problem with it.

sorry you feel that way.
God only has a mansion whomever follows him.
Look at the promise not the punishment.
the punishment is only being without Him.
If you truly don't want His gift....He like you would not shove it down your or anyone else throat.
Remember PROMISE not PUNISHMENT
