I think then kids could be taught about importants issues like drugs etc. I fail to see any purpose to religion Hitler was brought up Catholic so you can`t say it makes people have better morals. The God in the bible is a very sick man he wiped out nearly the entire planet if you believe the Noah story

Banned? No. Kids need to learn about things that contribute to their culture. I fully support comparative religion class, and as I recall, my schools had many Bibles in their libraries.

Actively endorsed? Also, no.

The problem is not if religion is good or bad for students in school the issue for the United states that has so many different people of different religious backgrounds is how would a pulic school system handle all the issues of parents, religious groups, etc knocking at the schools door and saying they are not teaching in just the right way.

Think about it. Even two people who go to the same church will have differnt views on how religion should be taught. Now imagine a school full of kids being taught one or all religions. First no one would agree on how to handle this and second there is not enough time in a life time to teach all the variations of how people believe all the religions.

Religion should be left to the parent and the child. The state should not take this resposibility as they do not have the best interest of your child.

Religion should not be taught in schools or promoted by the schools. However, the kids at school should not be prohibited from displaying their religion as long as they are not stepping on the religious rights of others. If a kid wants to wear a cross then let that kid. If a kid wants to pray then let that kid as long as it does not interfere with anything. If the kid wants everyone to stop what they are doing to allow the kid to pray then that would not be allowed. Make religion a part of the personal life and not something dictated by the government. There is absolutely no compromise that allows schools to teach religion that respects the rights of all citizens.

If religion could be taught for what it is--myth and folklore--that'd be the only way I'd support it. I actually think it would do a service to children to be able to learn about all religions past and present. Maybe shed a little light on just how many things match between accepted present religions, and dismissed religions now thought to be ridiculas.

If schools would do something like that, just maybe we'd get rid of a lot of the dogma that's holding all of us back as a species.

Of course, religious parents would never go for it.

The history of religion should be taught as part of a history course. The art and architecture of religion should be taught as part of an art course. The teachings of religion can be taught as part of a comparative religion course. But the schools should not be teaching any religion as true or better than any other. That is an establishment of religion. That is for the parents and religious institutions to do. For those who wish to not teach any religious doctrines, that is also for the parents to oversee.

One person doesn't represent a whole religion. Hitler flip-flopped a lot anyway when asked about his religious beliefs. And as far as I know, religion isn't taught in public schools. In Catholic schools yes. And God isn't a sick man, becaue one, he isn't a man. Two, Those people were told to repent and they continued in their evil ways. God has the right to punish those who disobey him. After all, He bought them into this world, he has the right to take them out of it.

Well, I have trouble with the bible myself because if God is as wonderful as I think he is, why did all that horrible stuff happen? But I do love and believe in God nonetheless.

But I think that if parents want their children to be taught religion in school, there are schools for that. But public schools shouldn't have religion within them like that.

There are so many religions in America, no school could do them all justice. Still, I'd allow what we called "religious release time" when I was a kid. That's when kids could go to a nearby church for an hour of religious instruction during the school week. And I'd allow for religious history classes in high school.

You want to teach children good morals without the Word of God??? This is the main reason that this world is in total chaos because american people, in their own ignorance, kicked God out of the public classrooms and replaced Him with condoms, fale religions, and teaching of tolerance that goes against His righteous standards. Children will never learn to abstain from doing wrongs in life, drugs ( as you mentioned ) without Godly guidance/ teachings. If it's not drugs, it'll be something else. I'm sorry you think so little of your own soul and of God to call Him names. But seeing how you are still alive in your hate proves He is more merciful than you say!

i dont think any religion should be taught in schools unless of course it is a private religious school. school is for learning academics, math, reading, writing, science ect. if the parents want to teach their cildren abot their religion they should attend church, senoggoge (i cant spell it) or wat ever their religion requires. they can also send their child to religious private school. i think learning the history of the religions and world religions is fine as long as their not pushing it on the kids to believe it.
P.S. god is not a sick man. he wiped out the planet because the people were getting out of hand and disobeying god. he will never do it again

No.

I don't care if childrne pray or form their own religious study groups.

As long as the school isn't sanctioning any particular religion, requiring religion to be taught or participated in, and I don't have to pay for it with taxes, it is ok with me.

Edit: James, from your continuing posts I doubt you have ever even been to school. There is no atheist literature and no communist propganda. Get a life.
