Jesus said: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me,because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor."

I know many of you are doing what you can to help those in need. I also know that many Churches throughout America are not only doing their part, but are actually playing a leadership role in trying to change the way we treat those in need.

Still: can't we be doing a lot more, when millions of children have no health care and go to bed hungry?

Peace be with you.

It's not that America/American Christians are doing nothing.

Again I ask, can't we be doing more? Should we be inspired to do more?

Start with "Country" is government (which America is a non-religious entity). The USA is very helpful to the poor (Tsunami, Earth Quacks, ect) ... however, being a government it fails on the social level. Look at Katrina.

Which is where Church's come in. The Churches within the USA do offer lots of help internally & externally. We watched the horrors of Katrina ... and it was the salvation of the Parishes and Churches that made instant help for those in Exodus. I saw on TV Church groups who went to tornato counties and provided entertainment to lift the spirts ... sure the govt gave tents ... but we also need to tend to the spirit and soul of the sufforing!!! The "Non-Religious" government allows groups to do this ... or allows Religions to enhance their aide ... sometimes replace the govt too.

We're there ... "Seek & you Shall Find"

It amazes me that people expect all poverty to vanish because there are Christians around. Jesus said, "The poor you will always have..." We do much to help but not everyone will always be rich. Also, if you check the statistics over several years you'll discover that in most cases those who are poor to begin with rise above the poverty level and continue to improve over their lives. Very few people are actually poor through thier whole lives.

Honestly? Because alot of people are greedy and think mostly of materials things. Not all people are greedy though. Remember when the rich man asked Jesus what he could do to get to Heaven and Jesus told him to sell everything he had and give it to the poor and come follow Him and the man walked away sad. It's true though. It's a greedy world we live in.

We need to stop focusing on trivial issues when it comes to elections. Instead of putting our attention on things like gay marriage, we need to vote for candidates that actually want to make changes in this country for the better.

Most Americans are easily distracted from issues like health care, education, and government funding by a few select "media" issues.

How would you know how other Christians are practicing generosity seeing as Jesus said, "Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Mt 6:1-4

I try to do things for the pour sometimes. But not because, Jesus said to. I do it, because I am a giving person, naturally.

CHurches should be leading the way; it is not government's job to follow Jesus' will...just ask the ACLU.
