For the effectiveness of the medication it does not matter whether they are clean or dirty (it is absorbed through the skin), it does depend on how often YOU bathe your dog. If you bathe him often then make sure he is absolutely dry before applying (ideally 24 hours) and do not bathe him for at least a week after applying the advantix

Most flea applications like Frontline, Advantage and Advantix suggest waiting at least a few days after your dog has had a bath before applying. OR wait a week to bathe your dog after applying. I prefer to use the anti flea product on my dogs about three days after a bath, at least. The reason for waiting a few days after bathing is so the natural oils in the coat are there to help the topical medication to spread effectively.
I bathe my dogs about once a month, three days before applying. This seems to provide optimum protection for them.
I use BioSpot now because Frontline and Advantage seemed to be unable to stop all fleas about a year ago after success in ridding them of all fleas for years. I haven't tried Advantix yet, because the BioSpot is working. But if it stops, then that is what I will try next.

You can apply it 24 hours before a bath or 24 hours after the bath. It works with the oil of the skin to spread all over the body hence why you need at least 24 hours before or after.

You should clean him, then apply the stuff when it is dry. It is most effective that way, and the dog won't be as agitated. If the dog does not like baths, then you should probalbly wait a while befor putting ot on him/her.(I don't like to call animals it, haha)

Clean is best but sometimes I forget and just put it on. I use Revolution which says it is waterproof after 2 hours, you might check your box for yours. I will usually wait a day if she needs a bath after I apply it, I don't give her baths too often though because of her sensitive skin.

You should give your dog a bath at least once a month and it's easiest to to it on the first weak of the month then you can give your dog the heart-worm pill and flea med at the same time as you give the bathe.
