They could. I doubt they would. It's a small amount. Bill collectors throw around terms like lawyer, and court to scare you to pay. You should pay however if you owe them or work out some payment plan.

You can go to court over any amount- but...
here is the good news- you are in a good position to bargain. Call them and tell them you are ready to settle- then start with an offer of about 30% of the debt and work up from there. Tell them you want an agreement in writing that once you have satisfied this settlement that the account be removed from the report and not listed at all. That way you resolve the debt and take the bad mark off your credit- make sure you get in in writing. This saves them from paying their lawyer to go to court and they get at least part of what they are collecting on- oh and if the person who speak with won't take a settlement ask for a supervisor. Good Luck!!!

Yes they can. Since you would also be responsible for the court costs you could end up being sued for around $1,000 or more.

If you know who is calling you, and it is about a debt you owe you should talk to them. For $192 depending on exactly what it is you should be able to negociate with them to remove the item from your credit report if you pay in full.

Just what ever you do be sure to have any agrement in writting from them before you send them any money.

Unfortunately, they can. But keep in mind, if you make an effort to talk to them, and work out a payment plan, they can't take you to court.

And, they will also say things to scare you so that you do call them.

Just give them a call. Get it over with, ya know?

They can collect for a dollar, if they choose. The size of the debt is not relevant. If you owe the debt, then pay it, and they will stop bothering you.

Yes they can take you to court for that amount. They probably have attorneys on retainer that make it worth it to chase small amounts. pay them or prove you don't owe it.

Anyone that thinks you owe them money can sue you in small claims court for any amount.

They can. They might not for an amount that low, but they definitely can, and might.

For that low an amount, why don't you just pay it off and get them off your back plus keep the black mark from your credit.

They can do what they want to do. First they contact the credit reporting agencies and report your bad debt.

why don't you just pay it? I think they will probably just mess your credit up with it, I don't know that they could take you to court, maybe a small claims court.
