Pigs ears should not be given to puppies if members of the human household are immuno-compromised, since pigs ears can harbor Salmonella.
most of the pig ears manufactured in the United States are safety inspected and are safe. There have been cases, however, of Salmonella being transmitted through pig ears. After handling pig ears, or any meat-based treat for your dog, you should wash your hands with plenty of soap and warm water.
Keep pig ears off of food preparation or serving areas. Pig ears have a high fat content and would certainly not be the treat of choice for dogs with weight problems or those prone to pancreatitis.
If given in large quantities (as compared to the size of the dog or puppy), pig ears can also cause loose stools. The bottom line is moderation.
It is always a good idea to supervise your dog when giving him any treat and prevent him from swallowing large pieces of chew items.
hope this helps

Pig ears, Pig Snouts, Cow ears are excellent for all dogs. They are compised of the cartilage and are completely disolve in the digestive tract of animals. I prefer these to all other chews out there. I also prefer the unsmoked because they are less messy inside the house and don't have the artificial smoke flavoring on them which is just chemicals.
Try to stay away from cooked bones, sterilized bones, and rawhide. These splinter and can reek havoc on the digestive system.
For a special treat ask your butcher for some left over cow leg or sheep leg bones, RAW. Yes Raw!!! Your dog will love them. Good for an afternoon of sitting house side with them. My butcher slices them in 5 to 6 inch chunks and i freeze them for the summer days right now. My dog spends hours trying to get the yummy nutrient filled marrow out from the middle!! Have the bones made into a size to fit your dog! Most butchers are more than happy to do this and the price is very very cheap! If they are raw they will not splinter!

If she is just chewing, then it is ok, but if she is chewing off pieces and eating them, then it is very bad. Dogs cannot digest pork of any kind and should avoid eating chewies, especially since she is such a small breed and a puppy at that. I recommend natural rawhide or greenies. Those are both wonderful, safe alternatives at a comparable price.

Absolutely not! They can be consumed and puncture the dogs stomach or intestine. I have talked to people whose dogs died from pigs ears. Same with cow hooves and rawhide. They all present a danger to dogs. I do not give my dogs any recreational consumables after experiencing a near death problem with my dogs.

Sure! Just make sure if she chews on it so much all that is left is a small piece, take it away so she will not choke. But, the big pig ears are great for teething pups or to keep teeth clean. Hope this helps!!
