Up until a couple hundred years ago, they used military force to conquer and convert the majority of the people in the world. Since then, they've used the threat of damnation to maintain.

But unfortunately for them, science and critical thinking have overpowered them, and they are losing their grip on society exponentially these days.

Don't be so sure there are. Just because a person believes that God exists, does not make them a christian. I believe a christian is a follower of christ. Going to church does not make a person a christian. People say" I am a catholic", I'm a babtist, I'm a pentocostal, I'm a mormon. See what I'm saying. These are religions, the only true faith is christian.

Everyone has something that will work for them. The Muslims have Allah, the Christians have YahWeh and the Atheist have themselves, etc. . .
Everyone believes differently and have the right to do so. . .

Because our loving Lord Jesus Christ is worthy to follow.

True we don't follow Him as we ought. And many say they follow Him (say they are a Christian - one who follows Christ) but don't really do as He did.

But the quest continues for many of us... to be more like Jesus. To be true Christ-followers. Christians. For He has captured our hearts with His gentle love, healing hands, words of truth, and wounded side.

Constatine and his army wiped out the pagens. Sad but true. Otherwise, I believe, there would be a wider range of religious sects.

I have often wonder how 2 billion (of earth's 6 billion) people could be so dumb. My guess is indoctrination and brainwashing. They've had nearly 2,000 years to perfect their technique.

Without Christians in this world, it would be a very sad world. The Christians do most of the humanitarian work - i.e. as evidenced during Katrina and many other incidents. I thank God there are many many Christians and I pray many many more to come. Blessings.

An answer that would make sense is that what they believe is the truth. If is wasn't, people who join Christianity would leave rapidly, but you don't see that happening in large cases. That's my best answer.

The Bible says believe or burn. Works on the simple minded people long ago. Then the simple parents passed it on to their simple children until today.
