"Sometimes there is absolutely no difference at all between salvation and damnation."

~Stephen King, _The Green Mile_

Those who automatically say that the two are completely different, consider that some events in our lives provide both our greatest joys and our greatest tragedies--parenting for example. It's those experiences that scar us, yet we wouldn't give them up because they helped shape us into who we are and are stronger because of them.

C'mon, Deof...this is the same person who also gave us "The Shawshank Redemption." King's works often deal with Christian issues--"The Stand" for example. Look past the gore and into the depths of (admittedly not all) his stories.

Ack, that's more philosphical than spiritual, I think. Provides a lovely opportunity to be impressively verbose and concept-twisty, but from a Christian perspective, the two are diametrically opposed, with absolutely no cross-over.

But also, *excellent* film.

EDIT: Humm. Was pondering, and maybe it's also about semantics - how those words are perceived. Again from a Christian perspective, people who don't accept salvation are damned... but they don't believe, so they have no worries, which must be, literally, heavenly. Which is what salvation is. However people who *do* accept salvation then come under all sorts of spiritual attack, and often hit rock bottom a lot more frequently than people without faith.

"Footprints", for example, was written for Christians who are "going through hell". Plus, Job *must* have felt like he was damned...

Interesting quote when you peel it back a layer or two.

Both of those are very true and very beautiful. I can totally relate to the first quote! I hide behind a smile all the time. I am one of those happy, hyper, crazy girls who is always laughing and cracking jokes. but also can be serious when need be and gets good grades. Little do people know, I as soon as I am alone, I am sad and heartbroken and some nights I even cry myself to sleep. My life may seem almost perfect, but it is just the opposite. I know that these quotes aren't really literal, like the first quote isn't really about pretty your eyes are or smile is, but what it is sorta ironic about this is people tell me all the time that I have pretty eyes, but inside I am really sensitive. I also love the second quote! As I said before, I am actually really sensitive, but sometimes I am rude and tough and like I don't care just because I don't want to be hurt and I don't want to think that people can hurt me, when in reality I am crying myself to sleep... :( A quote that I love is this: "I went to find a friend and I found none, I went out to be a friend and I found many." Also, just listen to the song Imagine by John Lennon. It is my favorite song of all time and I consider the whole thing to be a quote because it is so deep and inspiring and true! Thank you for giving me two new quotes to add to my favorites list!

I agree with Julie. Stephen King has no idea what he's talking about. That's why you haven't provided an explanation. It sounds like just a random quote with no purpose.

Spiritually Speaking, that quote is Totally Wrong.

Mentally and Emotionally and Physically, you might get by with it.

Ditto.....the Saved and Lost go through Hell sometimes.

Just what we need... pop culture theology, the same source of such gems as "Heaven's Just a Sin Away".

Nope that is totally wrong. One is eternal reward and the other is eternal punishment

I like his one of his other quotes better.

"The devil's voice is sweet to hear."
