It's usually from an imbalance in their gut. If they eat something they are not used to, or eat a lot of something, they can get diarrhea. My dog will get it if he eats too much rawhide (plus he gets some hideous gas).

There could be a huge variety of reasons why a dog would have diarrhea. Is your dog vomiting? Eating & drinking normally? Does he/she seem to feel good? Is the diarrhea just a soft stool or is it very runny? Is there blood in it? All of these things factor in. Sometimes it's just something as simple as a change in something he/she has eaten... or it could be as serious as Parvo.

There's no way to know for sure unless your dog has a fecal test done, and is checked out by a vet.

There are many reasons why, normally they ate something that didn't work with them just like a person can, lots of fruit or simply different food can do this. If it ever lasts more then two times, that is if two feedings in a row they have diarrhea and continue the whole day get them to the vet right away, don't wait.

There are many, many different reasons! Here are a few possibilities:

+ reaction of a sensitive stomach to new food
+ food poisoning
+ worms
+ parvo virus
+ any other type of virus
+ bacterial infection (gastro-enteritis most commonly)
+ obstruction in the gut (i.e has swallowed a foreign object like a sock or something)
+ organ failure
+ cancer
+ wrong kind of diet
+ reaction to medication

....to name a few! Basically, all the same reasons humans can have diarrhoea.

You need to add more details to your question if you're referring to a specific scenario!

When you feed a dog people food, its stomach won't like it because it is accustomed to dog food. Foods like chocolate especially make a dog have diarrhea.

Many things cause diarrhea, unfortunately! Eating innappropriate things, changing foods too quickly, dehydration, new food (new bones, new cookies), stress, virus, foreign body, parasites, Giardia, etc!!

A lot reasons sometimes because of something they ate and they usually need to eat grass when they have that, if your dog is eating grass that is good. Thats a sign of good instincts.
