That is not true .. If I discuss my own health on Y/A it is not in violation with HIPA.. Also HIPA is an American law...How would they govern in cyber...It also is not a violation of hipa if false names are used. So, if Yahoo is deleting these questions because of HIPA they really need to check with their lawyers because then they can consult on if it is legal or not,.

First of all, it's "HIPAA" (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) that you're talking about...not HIPA.

Second, it only requires that other people's information be kept private.

And as for the greedy lawyers.... we'll see how you feel about that when your personal health information gets out and causes harm to your reputation or job. Maybe then you will appreciate it more.

The only way it is illegal is if it is being transcribed and downloaded over the internet by a transcriptionist. The HIPA code must be enforced, however, this is after seeing a doctor, being diagnosed for your illness or problem, and he dictates his results to be typed by someone either out of state or nearby and delivered to the doctor in document form.

Someone talking about their medical problem freely over the internet is no crime.

well it is illegal to discuss OTHER people's medical info. You could technically talk about your own.

Plus HIPAA doesn't really apply to civilians, just people who work in the healthcare organizations.

Actually the HIPPA law protects others from talking about your medical information. You are free to share your own, with whomever you choose, even here on Q&A.
