Depends on what compression scheme you set the camera for.

The higher the resolution you set the camera for, the bigger the file size.

I have Nikon d70 6mega pixel camera and I can take 291 pic with 1gb compact flash so you can take 1200 pictures the most or more with 4gb card

I dont have a number for you, but i have a 1gb storage card with a 7.2 and i have never filled mine, and i take a lot of pictures. 4 gb is huge. the most pics i think i ever had was around 5 or 6 hundred.
