You can't prove faith, so why do you keep asking for proof about someone's faith? Faith cannot be proven. Also, please keep in mind I'm not saying I belong to any faith.

well, christians refer back to their bible as 'proof', so atheists us science and what not as theirs..

sandra: this is because atheist beliefs stem from science and logic more than any other belief system. therefor, to them, faith is blind, because the only thing justifying it is its self. so really, the only way they can be convinced is by spelling it out in there terms, i.e. scientific proof.

i myself am agnostic: i don't believe in any formal god, but i really don't think science disproves the possibility. i don't pretend to know what others seem to be so sure of. i may be opening a whole new can of worms here, but i think organized religion misses the point of faith just as badly as atheists demanding proof for it..

If certain christians would stop trying to convert atheists or attack atheists for not believing then I think that many atheists would stop asking questions like that.

There will always be people on both sides who will keep asking mean or stupid questions. However, I think a live and let live philosophy would be a very good idea.

You are talking about not pointing fingers, but didn't start with the finger pointing in this question?

Because first, atheists get to the logical conclusion that God is 99.99999% not possible.
Second if you are to pray to a deity that listens, then it better exist. For you to know, you need evidence.
Having faith doesn't take you anywhere. It's just comfortable.
that's why we ask for evidence.

IF you worship something that LISTENS...you need to know if it IS, in fact LISTENING, because if it isn't, it's a waste of life, which is only one.
Having faith is only half the way.

It seems to me that you take faith as a ...demonstrator of God's existance.
Well it isn't Since it can't be "proven", and faith only works if there's a god....then it must be true for the very fact that faith exists.
Having faith does not mean "Anything you can't show" exists.

Faith is hope. Atheists, as religious people call these valiant and rational men, have hope, a hope that someday humankind will believe in itself as a whole brotherhood, whole one being that doesn't have any kind of fear, prejudice or any other kind of irrational behavior. A humankind that will help in the development of this Universe. We don't need any proof from any God, furthermore, religious affairs are not our incumbance. We believe that the actual state of things in the universe happen by itself, just as you and me are now talking and thinking by our own will, following certain laws and procedures, and we must study them, so we can help to make a better world.

Scientifically-minded individuals seek proof for all knowledge. They do not accept faith as a reasonable source of knowledge - whether you call that knowledge "belief" or not.

Many things are asked of people on the basis of beliefs based solely on faith, beliefs that are contradicted by the beliefs and faith of other individuals as well scientific facts.

Since different people have different beliefs based on different faiths, there is no way to evaluate which faith is valid, if any. And yet, believers often accuse believers of different faiths of believing in lies, while offering no evidence that their beliefs are valid.

The only way to distinguish between useful information and divisive beliefs is through the presentation of facts supported by proof.

Because I can't tell the difference between faith and delusion.

Because there are thousands of gods and goddesses out there. without some evidence I do not know which one to have faith in.

Because there are arguments the indicate that god does not exist. Why should I have faith in something that is most probably just wishful thinking?

I don't agree that atheists "ask" for proof. I think they say that they need proof to believe. Not everyone has the capacity for faith without some form of evidence. So, for some people faith is easy; for others it isn't.

Good question!

It's just hard for us atheists to grasp that people can believe in something when all evidence screams against it, for no other reason other than the desire to believe it's true. It's true because I want it to be is fine for one's own personal beliefs.

The problems begin when this desire for make-believe impacts non-believers - when we are told we're going to burn in hell. When you can't get into politics without professing a belief in god. The list is endless. When reasoning and clear thinking take a backseat to fantasy, it impacts all of society.

No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.

Correct.

You cannot prove faith, and vice versa... faith cannot prove. Problem is that most Christians don't seem to get that.

When you accept an assertion by faith, you're admitting that what you're asserting can't be accepted on its own merits. You need something above and beyond evidence to make it true. If you use 'faith', it's a cop-out.
