Seeing as how if I choose to commission after I graduate, I would be a 1st Lieutenant. I'm in the Corp of Cadets at Texas A&M- CS.

Yes, sort of. You can delay the inevitable if you do ROTC, commission, and then the Army sends you to Med school, but you owe them 8 years after med school. There are no guarantees and the army my deem that you are needed to deploy at anytime. There are very few no deployable position for new recruits and officers.

Don't narrow your choice of military service to just the Army. The Navy also has doctors. Speak with a recruiter to find out the requirements necessary to become a medical specialist. It may involve becoming a Dr. before you enlist. Be prepared to serve for at least 6 years of active duty after your education is completed. The armed forces will require your sacrifice for the education they have provided. Once you're in the military, you really don't have a choice of where you perform your active duty. However, you can increase your chances of preferred duty stations by excelling at your craft. Good duty allotments are usually given to those who perform in an exemplary fashion during training or schooling. However, there are no guarantees.

My advice is FINISH YOUR BS/BA FIRST while going through your University's ROTC program. The Army has I think three ways to go to medical school on their dime. USUHS is the most obvious, I think annually they receive about 700 apps and select around 150 but this is for all three services, and one is a going to any medical school you want on the Branch's dime, the third is ALOT more rare and so is not worth mentioning. After medical school is over THEN the Army can send you where ever they want of course, they paid for your MD.

Doctors tend to deploy less but no, you will have to go to war if you join the army, period. It doesn't matter if you're in school or not. You will go.
My husband is in the Air Force and people that try to get out of deployments get kicked out of the military. Air Force doctors also deploy to Iraq. If you aren't willing to go to war you shouldn't even consider joining the military.

Think about it, the army puts troops (fighting personnel) on the ground to fight, what do you think your chances are of not going somewhere to fight.

Ditto Marines, but they're support personnel, medical legal etc come from the Navy side.

Navy is more remote as well, but often deploys into war areas.

Check out the air force, their bases may be remote but they fight from the sky, support personnel aren't in the same harm's way situation.

They could ship you out its part of the deal, but its doubtful. Our military is not so stupid as to take a medical student and put them in a war zone. Doctors are a hot commodity they just wouldn't want to waste.

There's ways to be in the Army and go to medical school. Here's some info, and they'll even pay you. But once you graduate, they'll be waiting for you.

once you're apprehensive about respect, pass enlisted first, get some adventure then pass officer. i comprehend numerous enlisted adult adult males which have 0 respect for officials clean from college/OCS. They respect the rank yet no longer the man and talk negatively about them. once you're apprehensive about funds pass officer. An O1 starts at 3k/ month and an E4 starts at 1900/mo.

Doctors don't fight on the front lines.
They work in hospitals.
There is special training you can get that will keep you off the front lines.
But Doctors still get "Shipped Out".

Why are you any better than the rest of us in the military? Why is YOUR education any more important than mine?
You just want Uncle Sam to pay your school costs and not give something in return?
That is so selfish! If you want to join up, take your chances like the rest of us that serve, or DON'T JOIN!
