I am so embarrassed. I interviewed 3 days ago for a job. The employer said he'd get back to me the next day and DID NOT phone me, so I thought I didn't get it. My dad ended up calling both the managers to see what happened (yes, my dad). Then today I get an EMAIL saying I got the job, and I have to send my schedule of availability.

Should I just forget my dad called them? What do I do now? He left messages on both their answering machines...

I don't think they called him back though.

I realize that I should have called, but I didn't feel like pursuing it...

Do you think I should accept the offer? And still work there or what... I have no idea what he said to them on the answering machines.

But he left it on their personal mailboxes....should I take the offer nonetheless?

No......I'm half English....why are you calling me a disturbed person? Jesus, don't respond to these questions if you won't offer good advice.

Oh heavens, the last thing you want to do is to try to dodge some embarassing situation like they always do on Seinfeld (dodging responsibility and the turmoil that follows is what half of that show's plotlines were based on).

Email your schedule and make nothing of it. If they ask you about it, just tell them the truth. Tell them your dad was helping you with your job search and he maybe got a little over-zealous. Have a laugh with them over it! It's a very innocent sort of situation, and it deserves to be dealt with lightly. If you act ashamed or embarassed, it will give the impression that you're easily flustered. Over the course of working, it's likely you'll be in some far more difficult and onerous situations, and you may have to deal with a serious issue that really is your fault. You need to demonstrate that you can handle uncomfortable situations without breaking a sweat, especially since this is really nothing to even be ashamed of really.

Like I said, if they bring it up, just explain it to them and just laugh it off. "That's my dad for ya!"

And yes, take the job. Or at least don't turn it down just because of this. That would be silly.

Chances are your dad's message never got to the hiring person. Messages left on the general message system sometimes don't even get played.

Ignore it and stop having him do things like that for you. First of all you were supposed to do a follow-up letter. Now that you are going to work for the guy, remember that he doesn't always do EXACTLY what he says, immediately. Don't panic or send in your dad every time the boss doesn't do what you want right that minute.

If it ever comes up, don't throw your dad under a bus. Just say "Yeah, I overreacted because I really wanted to work here" and change the subject.

Are you sure you didn't call with a fake British accent and shoot your mouth off? You sound like a disturbed person.

Read my post, it's good advice.

Just take the job and don't worry about it. in the future, take the initiative to pursue your own career and not wait on dad to do it. Obviously he wants you to get a job and didn't trust you to do it.

I would just pretend like nothing happened. Might be awkward at first, but they can't just unoffer you a job. And keep in mind that they probably care about this confusion three times as less as you do, so don't let it worry you.
