I have a 92 Mustang Convertible (for sale). If you hear the motor running when you push the top switch, and the hooks are still hooked to the underside of the windshield trim, then you need to pull the handles out to realse them. My handles pull almost 90 degrees back. Sometimes you have to fight them a little (we are driving 15 year old cars w/ who knows how many miles). If you hear no noise, the motor is bad (or a blow fuse or the such). By the way, 92 Mustangs don't have the safety switch to prevent the top from being operated when not in Park. I use mine ALL the time while I am in drive and driving (slowly of couse) down my street.

Even though you pulled the latches, you didn't disconnect the hooks. Put the top back up in the full up position, then unlatch the latches and make sure that the hooks are free. Then you can push the down button and the top should go down with no problem. good luck

Several have given good answers...remember, many Mustang convertibles require the parking brake to be set before the top motor will move the top. This is to prevent the top from being moved while the car is moving.

All those answers are good. If you get it released, hear the motor running, and it still wont work, it may be low on hydraulic fluid. The is a plug on the side of the pump/motor to add fluid if needed. Do this only in the closed position, and add trans fluid till even with the plug or runs out slightly.
And good luck!
