If it is a big tater, 10 minutes should do the trick. Especially if it turns while cooking. Adjust for a smaller potato.

I cook potatos in the microwave all the time. Jaba fork into it 2 or 3 times and put it in the microwave for 6-8 minutes. If its a big potato, go with 7-8 minutes. A small potato, go for 6. You do not need to wrap it or coat it with anything. Just place it in the middle and let it go. By the way, many microwaves have different wattages for cooking power, and depending on your microwave, it could take shorter or longer. I

I do everything that you do except I don't wrap it in paper towel. I just set the bare potato in the oven.

There is usually a setting on most microwave ovens for potatoes, popcorn, etc.... Just in case there's not one on yours, start at 5 minutes. Poke it to check for doneness, if it's not done at this point, put the potato back in for an additonal minute (or 30 seconds). Continue like this until it's done. Enjoy!

By the way, that's a tasty, yet healthy, choice of food.

about 8 minutes... in the microwave. I don't recommend microwaved potato's, though.

But have you tried the twice baked potato in the oven.... yummo:

First get a big potato and wash it good

bake it in the oven first until done (covered in tin foil covered with butter)

when it's done take it out and cut the top off

dig out all the potato but leave the shell

mix the potato with cheese, butter, sour cream, chopped ham or sliced beef, and add some salt and pepper to taste

put all back into shell and bake again until good and hot

now top with bacon bits and more cheese
(some people add green onions as well)

and enjoy!!

it takes a while but trust me it's worth the time.... it'll be the best baked potato you ever eat... :)

The length of time for microwaving a potato will probably vary, based on the sized of the potato. It will also depend on what setting you are microwaving (high, med, low), and the wattage/strength of your microwave. I'd say, for most microwaves, for a large potato, about 8 minutes on high would probably work. When it's done cooking, insert a knife or fork. If it goes in easily, it's probably done.

I hope this helps.

6 minutes per however many potatoes you are cooking.
3 potatoes would be 18 minutes.
Microwave half the time and then turn over and microwave the other half.
Dry potatoes microwave poorly.

put it in a microwavable bowl. now put into the microwave for about 3minutes.. if its not ready, cut it open, add a little salt, and put in the microwave for incriments of thirty to fourtyfive seconds until it is ready.
i would also suggest putting something on the potato, like cheese or dressing. if you do this, you will cut open the potato form the beginning.

It depends on the size, I would start it at about 2-3 minutes then check w/ knife and if knife goes in the potato easily then it is done, if not then cook for another couple of minutes until it gets soft.

The only other suggestion I have is to coat the potato with oil. Cook for 7-9 minutes.

Yes, so far you are doing well. Poke holes in it so it doesn't explode and then heat it for about 3-5 minutes or until it feels like you could squish it in your hand.
