You mean an automated call attendant? Yea, I hate those too.

They have them to route your call to the most appropriate call center. For my company, depending on which button you push you end with a call center in India or Canada. If you get the wrong call center, they just put you back in the queue - it sucks.

It is really smart but the thing they don't understand how most people talk....for the verizon you also have to talk like the computer. Example:How you would say it;" can i put a $100.00 in?"What way the computer understands:"C-a-n I P-u-t a h-u-n-d-r-e-d I-n?(yes you have to speak very VERY slow and have no accent whatsoever

i personallay like them.. they are usuallay better then the press 1 for this or 2 for that... you can always say "operator" or "representitive" sometimes the push button prompts still work (normallay 1 for yes 2 for no)

i hate the press 1 for this 2 for that .. etc.. with the voice prompts it seems more streamlined in getting the right person on the phone..

What I do is this...

Voice - How can I help you today?

Me - mumble mumble mumble

Voice - I'm sorry. I didn't get that. Please try again.

Me - blopperflingle booglebunder

Voice - I'm sorry. I didn't get that. Please try again.

Me - gleeglefilkle nooglerbranit meka meka

Voice - I'm sorry. I didn't get that. Please hold for the next available agent.

It may take 5 times but it will work eventually.
