Keep the cooler on the interior of the car. Make short stops not leaving them a long time w/o a/c. You will need to add/change ice a couple of times. You can buy shrimp in AL, it sounds like a lot of trouble to me unless they are really counting on LA shrimp.

Freeze the shrimp in a container for a few days before travelling. Just before leaving home, wrap the shrimp in as many as ten to fifteen layers of newspaper being sure to wrap it tightly. Securing the last layer with masking tape or sellotape. Finally wrap it in a plastic bag and place it in a zippered or velcroed cooler bag within your luggage (an insulated lunch bag should do the trick).
Make sure the shrimp is frozen solid. The newspaper keeps it insulated so it doesn't melt too quickly. When you arrive at the hotel immediately take it out of the cooler bag and place it in the freezer - no need to unwrap it - and simply pop it back into your luggage when you check out. That should keep it.

Great question!!! In all culinary industries, it is a requirement that dry ice is used. You need to bag the shrimp in ziploc bags and then go to the grocery store and you MUST ASK for dry ice. It is usually kept in the back, know more grocery stores have it in front with a lock on it. Be extremly careful with this stuff. Always wear thick gloves to prevent 3rd degree burns. Place dry ice in cooler and drive away. Be extremly careful about transporting fish. It is recommended that it stays under 0 degrees at all times.

Put a layer of bagged ice in the cooler, just to cover the bottom. Put the shrimp in and dump more bags of ice on it. When you get to the city with the hotel, drain some of the water and buy another bag of ice. The shrimp (yum!) will be fine.

Yes, it will be fine if you place enough icebags on the bottom of a cooler and on top of the shrimp. And: Store the cooler inside your car where there is air-conditioning; don't keep the cooler in the trunk. Don't open the cooler unless to exchange the ice bags while you are in the hotel.

Freeze water in several quart size milk jugs. Place frozen jugs in cooler, along with the shrimp. Cover with a bag of ice. Try not to open the ice chest.

Ice will NOT keep it frozen. You will need dry ice. Try groceries, ice cream plants, some welding supply places.
