Tell the doctor your concern. There are some types of drugs that are known to cause sexual side affects more often and to extremes. The doctor can either give you something that is known to have fewer problems straight off, or can add something that will balance the problem right away. The bad thing is, you have to get on the drugs first, to find out which ones cause sexual dysfunction in you. It is hard to say how long these side affects will usually last since it is an individual thing. But, it only takes being off of the meds for 3 weeks to stop the effects. For me, they were able to add a med that balanced things out for more than just sexual dysfunction. It also balanced out my mood.

If I were you, I would seek more cognitive and behaviorial therapies and look for another doctor. Regardless of whether or not you have a disorder, you are a person who wants to have the best life possible while managing your illness. I absolutely agree with you that you need different therapy or medication that has less side effects. Perhaps a lower dosage might help. A doctor who dismisses your complaints regarding side effects is a doctor who needs replacing. Side effects are a major concern for you and you have a right to seek other methods that will benefit you. Don't forget about God too. He is able to give abundant life to everyone and set the captives free. You have been a captive to your disorder and you need freed. I will pray that your life has a major turn around for the better. Keep believing and fighting for a better life. God bless you!

Some of the effects can be dryness, and loss of libido, at times even hypersexuality. The effects are different on each person. Some last 1-3 months, some are never affected and others never go away. Just try your medication, be positive and give it a good 3 month try. If at that point you are still feeling weird just ask for the MD to prescribe you something else.

I don't know the full reason that anti-depressants have the effects that they do, but I think that being stable without a libido is better than being horny AND crazy. Think of all the damage you are avoiding.
I'm taking Lexapro, also feel it's a great drug. This is my eighth year on anti-depressants, so I'm used to the effects and don't know what life would be like without them. Maybe I wouldn't be single - I'd be more motivated to date if I had a normal libido - but at least I'm alive - haven't killed myself.
What is worse? Being single or being dead?

Ive been on anti-depressants for 2 years and I have no sexual drive what so ever. The side effects last as long as you are taking the meds.

Unfortunately, they will last as long as you are taking the medicine. I had the same problem when I started taking antidepressants, but switched around and finally got to Wellebutrin. I have found they are much milder on this drug.

Depends on the drug...some it never goes away. I take Paxil for cataplexy (Narcolepsy symptom) and it is terrible. You might get horney, but forget an orgasim...EVER! Effexor was no better. Idon't think one of them doesn't have some sort of sexual side effect and it is terrible noone has made one that doesn't, but your mental health should not be ignored either. Stay away from Paxil. It is a good drug, but makes you wretch at the thought of sex.

Days to months if you haven't started to take anti-depressants please reconsider, unless you are suicidal. I went to the doctor and was put on anti-depressants when I was afflicted with depression, 1 pill turned into 5 over a six month psan and by that time I had pretty much gave up the will to live. I slowly weened myself off the meds over a 5 week span, I am now happy and med free. Just be careful!!

My boyfriend got on Lexapro a year ago and it affected his performance. He was able to get hard, but he could not go, no matter how he tried or how long we went. After almost a month of him not going, I made him quit his medicine! After a week he was able to perform thank god and finish!
The side effects last as long as you are on the medicine.
I do not recommend it!
