now it doesn't so what have i done to cause this. the manual doesn't mention anything

As a pro ,you have a pinched wire or an exposed one for that matter. to trouble shoot take your deck out and follow the power wires. RED(CONSTANT LIVE) and then BLACK(GROUND) if any of them are pinched or exposed to another wire BINGO!!!! theres your problem.

You must be driving a GM product. Every one I have driven lately does this. If you are listening to your favorite song, turn off the key and sit there 'til its over , open the door and it turns off.

I didn't read the forum before answering, perhaps Renault uses the same system.

try and find a similar power led and try that , if not int might be a sensor problem. good luck

if you press and hold the on button whilst starting the engine it might change back...that's what you have to do on my car.
