Well, the first step is obviously contacing a local recruitment office, but be carefull not to join that day, make clear that you are only seeking information and not ready to join that second. Don't sign anything!!! Until you are %100 sure that you want to do this. The Marines are looking to get any one who is qualified in, and they sometimes use some questionable recruiting tactics like pressuring you to join them that day without investigating other branches of service. This being said, there is nothing more honorable then serving your country as soldier in the world's finest military combat outfit. For weight and height requirements, you should be able to yahoo search it, try militiary.com or just ask the recruiter. They'll pre-screen for all of that stuff. I hope i helped.

The best way to get in contact with someone who can provide more information is to contact your local recruiter, which can be found in most phonebooks. Or you can visit the official USMC recruiting website, at the top there is a link to request more information that will get you in contact with one of the recruiters closest to you.

For Physical conditioning, you need to meet these standards before leaving for basic training;
2 Pull Ups
35 Sit Ups (2 minutes) (crunches really, and i think it's higher now)
1.5 Mile Run - 13:30

You will have a physical fitness test, (IST) the first friday you are at basic training, so you won't get too far if you're not close to meeting those standards. They won't kick you out, just send you to the Physical fitness platoon, which you DO NOT want to visit. Trust me.

There are plenty of benefits, from the Montgomery GI Bill, which will pay up to 37,000 for college, tuition assistance programs, and other things. It just depends on what you're more interested in.

The Marines, generally, don't give out "enlistment bonuses". They have a few, but they are FEW and FAR between, and only for very critically undermanned fields, and even then, only a few are authorized to receive it.

You can get advanced rank for JROTC, Eagle Scout, and other things, including getting 2 people to join before you leave for basic training. It's worth trying.

The Marines are the Marines. They're awesome. Lemme know if you have any more specific questions.

You answered your own question, see the recruiter. However, I would look around at all the branches, to see which is right for you. You said you wanted to know how soon you could be in combat, well if you're looking for combat...I'm not going there. But look around and see who can offer you what you want. The recruiters can answer your questions, and just remember; you're not committed to anything until you go to MEPPS (not the recruiting station) and raise your right hand.

Contact your local Marine recruiter. They'd be happy to talk with you and give you any information you need. You must be in excellent physical health and excellent physical condition. You should be able to do at least 50 push ups.

I found this to be mostly accurate.. (some of the PFT requirements may be off, I gave it to my neighbors daughter when she was looking to join)
Also go to www.Military.com they have the most info there besides
Marines.com
Think about contacting a recruiter, but please be careful. Don't sign anything or do anything until you are sure that's what you want to do.
Good luck with your decision!!
