I've been explained the Holy ghost a thousand times I still don't get it, could someone explain it to me in simple words, like I'm a child if you will. (My current understanding is that it is kinda like the Force in Star Wars)

"Third Person of the Trinity. The Spirit of God. The Great Comforter" these are names, while appreciated doesn't define what the Holy Ghost is, is it a different aspect of God? A vessel of God? is it seperate from God or is it God?

hahah well I'm sorry someone explained it that way, but in order to understand the Holy Ghost, you must understand the Trinity. The Trinity is God, who exist as three distinct person united as one. Now this is very difficult to comprehend, but think of it this way. Water exist in three forms, Gas, Solid and Liquid, yet, it is all the same element in three distinct forms. likewise, God exist this way also. The Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost is the Spirit of God, Jesus said we could not have that Spirit unless He left this earth. After Jesus Ascended into Heaven, we were given the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our Direct connection with God. It is what we feel if we feel God, It is what comforts us in trouble, It is what makes us aware of God. To compare it to the force of star wars is utterly stupid and disrepectful because we do not have authority over God, as those fictional chracters had over the force.

Hi Jon,

Casper after he's been eaten by moths?

Seriously though, the Holy Ghost is just another name for the Holy Spirit. Wikipedia defines the Holy Spirit as "one of the three divine persons of the Holy Trinity which make up the single substance of God, the others being God the Father and God the Son (Jesus). The Holy Spirit is different from Jesus in that He does not have a physical manifestation (or incarnation), and that He frequently dwells in and amongst God's people as a spiritual guide or a Comforter."

As an aside, some claim worshiping a trinity is inconsistent with monotheism (A belief in one god. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all monotheistic religions, as compared to polytheism: a belief in more than one god, e.g. the gods of Olympia - Zeus, Apollo, etc).

It makes a big difference if we think of God as a person or as a force. One way you get Christianity, the other you get Star Wars.

The historic and prevailing doctrine of the Christian church, in accordance with the Scriptures, has been that the Holy Spirit is a person distinct from the Father and the Son, though united to both in the mysterious oneness of the Godhead. He is not simply a personification or figurative expression for the divine energy or operation, as some have held at various periods of the history of the church (Anti-Trinitarians), but He is an intelligent agent, possessed of self-consciousness and freedom. In proof of this it is justly said:

(1) that the Scriptures that ascribe distinct personality to the Father and the Son with equal explicitness ascribe distinct personality to the Holy Spirit. Prominent illustrations of this are found in Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 28:19; John 14:16-17; John 15:26.

(2) The pronouns used with reference to the Holy Spirit are invariably personal pronouns, e.g., John 16:13-14; Acts 13:2.

(3) The attributes of personality, self-consciousness, and freedom are ascribed to the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 2:10; 1 Cor. 12:11).

(4) The relations described as existing between the Holy Spirit and mankind are such as to emphasize His personality. The Spirit strives with man (Genesis 6:3). He instructs, regenerates, sanctifies, and comforts believers (John 3:5-6; John 14:16-17; John 16:13-14; 1 Peter 1:2). We are warned not to “blaspheme against,” “not to resist,” not to “grieve,” nor to “quench” the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31-32; Acts 7:51; Ephes. 4:30; 1 Thes. 5:19).

THE Bible's use of "holy spirit" indicates that it is a controlled force that Jehovah God uses to accomplish a variety of his purposes. To a certain extent, it can be likened to electricity, a force that can be adapted to perform a great variety of operations.

At Genesis 1:2 the Bible states that "God's active force ["spirit" (Hebrew, ru'ach)] was moving to and fro over the surface of the waters." Here, God's spirit was his active force working to shape the earth.

God uses his spirit to enlighten those who serve him. David prayed: "Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Your spirit [ru'ach] is good; may it lead me in the land of uprightness." (Psalm 143:10) When 70 capable men were appointed to help Moses, God said to him: "I shall have to take away some of the spirit [ru'ach] that is upon you and place it upon them."—Numbers 11:17.

Bible prophecy was recorded when men of God were "borne along by holy spirit [Greek, from pneu'ma]." (2 Peter 1:20, 21) In this way the Bible was "inspired of God," the Greek word for which is The·o'pneu·stos, meaning "God-breathed." (2 Timothy 3:16) And holy spirit guided certain people to see visions or to have prophetic dreams.—2 Samuel 23:2; Joel 2:28, 29; Luke 1:67; Acts 1:16; 2:32, 33.

The holy spirit impelled Jesus to go into the wilderness after his baptism. (Mark 1:12) The spirit was like a fire within God's servants, causing them to be energized by that force. And it enabled them to speak out boldly and courageously.—Micah 3:8; Acts 7:55-60; 18:25; Romans 12:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:19.

By his spirit, God carries out his judgments on men and nations. (Isaiah 30:27, 28; 59:18, 19) And God's spirit can reach everywhere, acting for people or against them. Psalm 139:7-12.

Your Conscience..Once you no longer care about whether your doing something wrong or you no longer feel good about doing something good, it's pretty safe to assume the Holy Spirit or Ghost is no longer within you.....
Let your Conscience be your guide...
God the Father
God the Son
God the Holy Spirit

i develop into raised a Christian yet whilst i develop right into a baby I in no way as quickly as felt God’s Holy Spirit. as quickly as I walked far off from Christianity i develop into strolling far off from something that for the period of no way felt completely actual to me besides. Now that I honestly have felt God's Spirit in maximum of distinctive techniques, if I have been to stroll far off from each religious blessing I’ve gained and say I don’t believe any of it, then i might actually be lost. Why? in case you could doubt after feeling the affection of God’s spirit, no longer something will make you think. you're quite lost.

As an occultist I see the 'Holy Ghost' as a symbol of spirit falling into generation and galvanizing the soul of man into spiritual activity of some kind.as well as a symbol of Lucifer, the morning star.
