if even though we aren`t together and he isn`t raising the child, will they let him off on paternity leave?

To some of you, you can **** right off. He convinced me to keep the baby, then decided to bail. He isn`t deployed, and won`t be. He is doing his second language training and will be done a week before my due date, which then he will probally get a week off anyways..i was just curious if they would maybe let him stay a bit longer if the baby was born.

And Don`t sit here and call me non commital. We were together 3 years, planned on getting married, he begged for a child. So AF wife, grow up. I`m 23 years old. Don`t be a *****

The only thing he will get is his regular leave, if it comes at a time when he has a break then he can ask for the amount he has saved up, it is up to his chain of command wether or not they grant it. Remember also, the child will be authorized medical care from the military so as soon as the child is born please get him/her enrolled in DEERS. Good Luck

Unless things have changed a lot since I had my son, probably not. My husband is US Air Force and when I had my son (14 years ago) my husband wasn't allowed to go to any of my prenatal appointments and had to take leave after the birth of our son. He got called in three days after my son was born because there was an exercise and they "couldn't spare him" (he was an E-4 at the time) but was still charged for that day of leave anyway. Basically when it comes to family, the military's idea is "If we'd wanted you to have a family, we'd have issued you one." Sorry to be a downer but that's the experience I've had.
That being said, if the father of your baby has some leave (military get 30 days a year) and forecasts it out for around the time you're due, he should be able to take it.

Bobfrey, he *may* be able to get regular leave but it certainly wouldn't be paternity leave. On top of that, it's difficult to predict the date of delivery accurately, but you can get a decent ballpark and hope for the best. We don't have that type of leave, not even for the *official* dependents (wives).

It's one of the sacrifices we must accept to protect the folks back home. (If we did, the rotations would have to be reduced to 8 months and be at least 10 months after the return.)

Good Luck and keep positive and supporting. He'll appreciate it!

The military doesn't give paternity leave! Most guys are lucky if they are able to get off duty to go be with their wives. And, if they have a real understanding and compassionate supervisor, they may get the next day off. Then again, they may have to go back to work after she has the little one. Most of our hubbies have to take leave to spend some time with us and new babies.

If he were to request leave and his leave request approved, there is no reason why he would not be able to be there. If he is training away from his permanent duty station and you are located where he is training, he would have to return to his unit first, complete the leave form, get approval, and then he could return to where you are (if that is the case). Either way, he would have to return to his unit first to request leave. Good luck to you!!

Probably not if he's overseas.

If he's stateside, probably.

My hubby got 10 free days after each of our children were born. But he wasn't deployed - Yes I know I'm very lucky.

No real paternity leave in military, if he is not active duty yes he can come but if he is in Iraq or on foreign soil he is not going to return till end of tour of duty.

No such thing, except under very special circumstances, such as if you were committed to an insanity ward or something crazy like that.

Even then, being a single soldier (?), they probably wouldn't grant a leave request.

No. They won't. There are thousands of military wives who are with child that have to go through it alone.

Don't you ever hear about the soldiers who are fighting in Iraq when their child is born? They end up coming home when the child is almost a year old.

Is he deployed? If not he get 30 days leave a year and can use it if approved. If he's deployed no he can't.
