Go and make a demo, and start hitting coffee houses and bars who hire SINGERS..... meanwhile keep recording and get a cd done, and start posting yourself on youtube and myspace.

Well good luck. First make sure you can sing. If you've watched American Idol you realize alot of those people thought they had "a gift from God" also. I would recommend as others have to try local bars, clubs, coffee houses etc. If you play an instrument great, if not that'll make it tougher. Find a band who might need a backup or featured vocalist. If you're good enough to get gigs then follow your dream. If you're not getting local gigs that could be a message. Practice your craft but don't waste your life chasing it. Even most of today's successful musicians say it's a lot of luck too. Right place, right time. Just keep networking in the music community and sing what the public wants not your personal favs unless they happen to be the same. Garth Brooks wanted to be a rock and roll star and tried for years but country was his calling. Explore different musical genres and most of all have fun.

I sing as well - although not professionally. However, two of my good friends are professional singers.

I'm sure you have a wonderful voice, but it wouldn't hurt to take some voice lessons if you can. Just to keep you up on your craft and keep your voice fresh. Since you love to write, maybe pen an original song or two. My friend Becky (www.beckyjohnsonmusic.com) started out by performing at Starbuck's every once in awhile. Now she has a new CD out and it seems that she's performing somewhere different every week!

I would say check out Starbuck's, local coffeehouses or other local artist haunts to see if they have an amateur night or be willing to let you perform a set of songs. Look into getting a manager as well.
I think you will need to start off doing a demo CD (either you can put one together or for best sound quality, look into having a local studio record one for you) and then start sending them out to managers.

Best of luck to you!

these days try to get on a show like American Idol or Nashville Star. At least they give you some visibility. Other than that, it is hard work and luck. You can get your music together that you would like to record, pay for some musicians and recording studio time and record a demo. Then try shopping the demo to record companies.

go to open mics, amateur nights, and any other situation where you can get some audience experience. know your material, know it so well, that nothing and no-one can distract you (as in the drunk in the second row, the people eating and talking while you are performing....) learn to read music, learn phrasing, and diction. plan to spend years hearing the word "no". plan to spend years auditioning anyway. make contact/mailing lists at each performance, get people to give you contact info, and let them know about future shows. bang your own drum, (so to speak) and promote yourself to the media, get media coverage, in print, for your performances. save the notices, you will need them. save the mailing lists, as well. keep records of attendance at your performances. when you have created a sufficient 'buzz', you will be contacted by management/agents. take it from there.

The only way to become famous, is to have someone famous backing you. . .look at eminem. . no one heard of him until Dr. Dre backed him. Also, if you're young, you may have a shot. . .try getting some t.v. time. . you will need a manager for that.

First off, you should start by either taking lessons or joining chorus. You also need to know her strong and weak points. This will help you figure out what you need to improve on.
