It's one of the more treatable forms of cancer. Cancer is nasty though, and likes to come back.

Cure? No. Treatment? Yes.

Once you've been diagnosed, depending on how invasive the cancer is, you will have surgery (ranging from lumpectomy to full radical mastectomy), then this will be followed typically by radiation and/or chemotherapy treatment. Then you will undergo a watch-and-wait period...perhaps for the rest of your life.

There ARE some new experimental drugs on the market that are showing promise of REDUCING (but not eliminating) breast cancer recurrence; these are administered to the patient once BC has been diagnosed and/or treated in the hopes of preventing recurrence in the other breast.

The best way to increase the odds of survivability are to be sure you know your body, do self-breast exams, and do NOT be afraid to talk to your doctor and ask questions.

I was diagnosed with a rare form of B/C in March 2005.I underwent chemotherapy, a bi-lateral mastectomy, lymph node removal, radiotherapy and I've had a year of Herceptin.
As for there being a cure, not as yet.
If you want to know more from real experts, I suggest you try the breast cancer care website where there are qualified nurses on hand to answer you.

It's treatable if caught early--that's why it's very important to do breast self-exams and to have regular mammograms after age 40 or so. The reason people don't want to say there's a "cure" is that sometimes it comes back years after apparently successful treatment--and because later stage, metastatic breast cancer is eventually fatal.

the combination of mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation has allowed many to live 15 or 20 years without recurrence, that is considered a cure.

If you catch it early, yes, it can be treated easily. They may need to take off your whole breast if it spread that much. But if it's spread into your entire body, nothing can be done anymore.
