Psychology cannot figure out the human mind. They're constantly "re-evaluating" their beliefs.

But astrology never changes. It has remained strong for several centuries!

Which one should you believe?

Eleventy,

As always your questions are top notch, forcing people to think outside their normal comfort zone.

My first reaction was it depends why things change. If it's because of new evidence then fine, but just so long as it's not due to idealogy, e.g. a change in political party every few years isn't reason to change my beliefs in government policies.

Generally speaking, I agree with you. Change is good. it's how human society evolves and adapts. Otherwise we would become stagnant and devolve.

always, all the way through history, people have laughed at what is changing and probably improving, because those working on it can't back up their views by saying "this is right" - because it could change within days.

at the same time, psychology could end up offering more relevant and up to the minute answers about things.

it probably depends on whether you want to branch out and be open minded, or to stick with what you know - which is reliable and all - but accept you might be missing out on the new stuff.

good question tho.

This is misleading. It it implies that because something never changes it must be wrong and only changeable things can be right, when in fact neither is true every time.

In science ideas are often modified or tweaked good hypothesis are rarely completely thrown out.

For example, Einstein did not prove Newtonian physics wrong it only demonstrated limitations of the theory and showed that some aspects of it are wrong.

The beliefs that never change because they're not allowed to be critically examined are almost certainly wrong.

The ones that don't change because they've been repeatedly tested (acceleration of gravity, etc) have a chance of being correct.

You should believe whatever has the most compelling evidence to support it, unless you feel you should reserve judgment until further evidence can be compiled.

Something that changes, of course. There is always more to learn, more to add on to and revise what we already know.
