ok, so, I am studying religions, mainly the abrahamic ones to begin, which are Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The more I am learning about their origins the more I am loosing faith in human kind. Don't people see the manipulation of the original various prophets messages? And the corruption that religious institutions have caused? Why do people follow blindly? For example, Jesus took in women, gentiles, etc... and he did not believe in discrimination. And now look at the church, since Emperor Constatine decided to turn Christianity into Rome's religion, as a political and military power move, they designed Jesus teachings to fit Rome's patriarchal society, which was not Jesus's intention what soever. Same with Judaism and Islam, Abraham had a great vision, but it got so corrupted, its not that half the globe decided to become Christian or Muslim, they were conqueredand and forced. Why are people soblind to recognize the truth of their worped faiths?

I dont want to hear anything about teh bible, the closes thing to what Christ sais is in St Paul's letters, anything else is made up crap, you fools follow stuff you dont even know where it came from. You think the bible was not manipulated? Especially the new testament, it was made to create a unified Christanity, under the roman empire! The Romans, the same people that killed Jesus, and here you are, blindly following their writtings!

Because it's unsettling
Because it's not what they've been taught
Because it requires work.
And especially...
Because once it has been decided that a text, sacred message, is inerrant in principle, and that that principle is unshakable, just about everything can be made to fit that assumption, even if it takes some complicated maneuvering.

(Remember, an earth-centred astronomy can be made to work, too, if you insist the earth is at the centre of the solar system. It just requires continuing adaptations, and complexities.)

Some combination of the above.
Any survey shows that most people believe what they were raised to, despite numbers who do change their world views.

Quite a good question. Unfortunately, the logic they use (or don't use) to justify some of their beliefs is the same logic they use to deny your point. Origins are important to know. For example, many people have beliefs about the Bible that stem only from Paradise Lost or Dante's Inferno. If you bring this up, they'll deny it. Some of them will try to point out to you where the Bible makes this or that claim, but in the end they're just interpreting things the way they want. They begin with a belief, then justify it. It should be justify the belief, then hold it.

From your description, it appears the only Christian religion you've studied is Roman Catholicism. Most Protestant Christians, whether they admit it out loud or not, consider Catholicism to be a mixture of paganism and Christianity -- so perhaps you'll be surprised to know that I agree with your assessment of that religion.

If you TRULY wish to understand Christianity, I suggest you read "Systematic Theology," by Dr. Wayne Grudem. It's a classic.

Jesus took in women, gentiles, etc... and he did not believe in discrimination.

The Catholic Church has always took in women and gentiles.

Prejudice is against the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church:

Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.

The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it:

Every form of social or cultural discrimination in fundamental personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language, or religion must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God's design.

The one exception is the ordination of women where the Catechism of the Catholic Church currently states:

The Lord Jesus chose men to form the college of the twelve apostles, and the apostles did the same when they chose collaborators to succeed them in their ministry.

The Church recognizes herself to be bound by this choice made by the Lord himself. For this reason the ordination of women is not possible.

One of the great truths of Christianity is that ALL have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.

I believe you just handed out another proof of this statement of the faith.

Having said that, however, our sinful nature does not in the least negate nor degrade the faith. It just makes living up to it a greater challenge. I'm up for it! Are you?
