I'm 25, male. and yesterday i was surrounded by georgous groomed women at a meeting for people in the promotions business, and men to match. So I want to get heavily, and unashamedly into grooming, proper metrosexual style. Two reasons, to make it in the promotions business, and to get some of these georgeous women. But i don't know where to begin.

Get the Metrosexual guide at your bookstore. Join a gym, go to a professional hair stylist (athough I love them Supercuts doesn't count) - get a manicure and go into a department store - like Nordstrom's or Macy's and go to the men's department - find a sales person, tell them you want to look sharp and get their opinion.

You can also hire someone to become your fashion adivsor and a personal trainer. And tehre are a number of books on the market about dress - etc for men. Ask a bookseller.

And rememebr - looking good costs money - that's why every girl's crazy about a sharp dressed man.

If none of this works, get yourself a make-over. Oprah, Doctor Phil and a hundred Bravo programs are looking for victims... I mean, subject. There are at least 3 syndicated make over shows, hundred of talk shows - Montel, Morey... All of them have websites which have pages where you submit yourself to get on. Tell them your story and who knows.

Go to a salon or possibly a professional barber shop, get a proper haircut, then buy some good shampoo (anything with tea tree oil is always a good choice, unless your hair is already oily) and a light-holding gel. Keep a small comb with you to keep your hair in place.

Buy some exfoliating skin scrub and clean your face.

Get a personal grooming kit and make sure your eyebrows and facial hair are kept at bay. For pity's sake: no college-boy goatees! Either keep yourself clean-shaven or let it grow into a mature set of hair (my father called the style a "van Dyck", but I don't know if that is the correct term).

Keep your fingernails trimmed neatly and cleaned.

Throw out your horrible clothing and get some new suits; if you have to buy off the rack then pay the extra fee to have them fitted. Make sure your ties aren't loud and coordinate with your suit.

After that...you'll need the attitude. Unfortunately, I can't help you there--you'll either have it or you won't. Just make sure not to confuse "confident" with "arrogant"; the former is attractive while the latter is not.

edit: Cindy H...great minds think alike.

Smart haircut, shave everyday, close attention to personal hygiene, brush your teeth after every meal, don't eat too many fatty foods or salt to keep your skin in good shape, manicures, clip your nasal hairs, keep your ears wax-free, invest in some tasteful aftershave and give the impression that you're proud of the way you look.
Think about your posture, don't slump your shoulders, or put your hands in your pockets.
Wear a clean shirt every day, and be careful about ironong, do it properly.
Be seen to check your reflection every chance you get.
People will soon get the impression that you take care of your appearance. Some women go for that kind of thing.

Buy yourself a mirror, rent a personal shopper at an exclusive department store and go to a top salon for hair and beuty tips, sounds a bit too much but what do you think david beckham does! And as your a bloke, go to a pedicurist and get your feet sorted as no one likes a man with gammy feet... no offence mate!

What you're looking to become is better known as a 'dandy'. There are plenty of such men around, especially here in London.

Edit: from Wiki...
A dandy[1] is a man who places particular importance upon physical appearance, refined language, and the cultivation of leisurely hobbies. Historically, especially in late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century Britain, a dandy often strove to imitate an aristocratic style of life despite being of middle-class background.

Given these connotations, dandy-ism can be seen as a political protestation against the rise of egalitarian principles — often including nostalgic clinging to feudal or pre-industrial values, such as the ideals of "the perfect gentleman" or "the autonomous aristocrat".

Edit:
To find out more about becoming a dandy and dandy-ism, try this website http://www.dandyism.net/

The most important person you need to aquaint yourself with is the late Beau Brummel Esq., dandy and gent about town. You can find his life-sized statue in Jermyn Street, St. James, an area much frequented by himself - Piccadilly etc.

The most important thing is style and appearing always well groomed, even after a furious game of chess. A dandy does not play cricket or soccer and not ever rugby footerball - these are games fit only for a rude and vulgar mob.

As a dandy, you will set yourself above such and concentrate instead on the sport - horse racing and so on.

Let Beau Brummel be your guiding light. He was a friend and confidant of the Prince of Wales [Prinny] and of such as Lord Byron, the world famous English poet and saviour of Greece. [The present day Lord Byron lives more or less exclusively in Athena].

Never refer to the city of Athena other than by the name of the goddess. Likewise, Rome is always Roma. Effect an understanding of classical words especially Greek and Latin Italian.

As a dandy gentleman, you will be expected to know a lot about the classics, books of quality, classical music, dance and so on.

Take dancing lessons in such as the waltz and the fox-trot.

You will take tea with the ladies at the Ritz Hotel Piccadilly. You will not take tea in Joe Blogs caff. You will not be seen dead under any circumstances in vulgar places such as Starbucks, with it's cheap and vulgar bare metal and plastic. You will frequent the salons and rub shoulders with the rich and famous and the movers and shakers. You will learn to speak their language and keep a confidence.

You never drink beer. Your drink is Claret [Bordeaux] otherwise it's cocktails at 4pm or plain fruit juice, such as orange. You drink expensive bottled water from wells so far away, no one has ever heard of them. Search one out and be an absolute snob about it.

Sign up for my classes... =)

But seriously, take tips from the Fab Five. Watch "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" for inspiration. Grooming, fashion, and social skills are essential for networking so polish up on them if you aren't adept yet. Decide on a look or image that you'd want to go for and then make your lifestyle decisions based on that one personality you'd want to project. Good luck!

You should always take care of your looks but you don't want to be vain! women won't be impressed by that. Having said that regular haircuts, a little moisturiser and some sharp suits would go a long way :)
