I have a coat of arms with this inscription and I just recently had it tattooed upon my arm in memory of my fathers recent death. I have tried many online translators, but they do not come up with a complete translation.

Character lives on after death- very nice for a tattoo, especially in memory of your father.

VIRTUE OUTLIVES DEATH -Is the common translation of this motto (that's also the motto of the city of Nottingham) but the literal translation reads
VIRTUE OUTLIVES AFTER FUNERAL RITES
Funera it's the plural accusative of the neuter noun
"funus, funeris" and hence can't be literally translated with the singular noun death.
