I've never owned a Ford Mustang, but I think they look pretty cool. Especially the Shelby 500 Ford Mustangs. My question is...Are the Ford Mustangs reliable sports cars? I just want to know becuause if I'm willing to spend $40,000 on a car, I want to know that I get a quality, reliable vehicle that I can enjoy for years. I'd like to hear input from people who either own a Mustang or know people who own them. Thanks!

Absolutely get any type of Mustang! I have a 2006 Mustang. I love it, and I drive it all the time. Everywhere I go people always tell me how nice my car is and that they wish they could have one. A couple of my friends have older Mustangs with more miles on their cars, and they have had no problems at all with it. I would without a doubt buy a Mustang. You will enjoy driving it. No question about it! Sometimes I have no place to go, so I just get in and drive. That's how much I love driving it! I know a few people that have the Shelby, and they say that it's incredible. The suspension isn't the best, but for the average person it would be fine. Although $40,000 approx. is the value of the car, I know a dealership in my area that rips people off! They buy Shelbys from other local dealerships and sell them for about $80,000! Obviously don't buy one that overpriced. Anyway, I'm happy with my Mustang, and I think I'll have it for many years to come... Actually, FOREVER! :-)

If you're not extremely worried about gas mileage then a mustang is the way to go. They have great performance and relatively few problems even if you run it a little rough. The only complaint I've heard about mustangs is they don't handle quite as well as foreign cars but the difference in handling wont be noticeable unless you're driving at much higher speeds then you should be on the street. Also mustangs tend to be good for well over 100k miles assuming you haven't been in any serious accidents that could have damaged the engine block/transmission/radiator, and assuming you check the fluid levels and get oil changes on a regular basis

I know people who own regular mustangs, that are reliable, but no one who owns the GT500, the GT500 is fast but has the simplest of suspension in the world of cars, i suggest with your money to buy a Roush Mustang, with about 40-50 less horsepower you get such better suspension and its cheaper, im not sure on the price though, in terms of looks there the same and in the roush you get racing parts. I also like the mustang.

I am on my 3rd Mustang (ok the first is 65 that is waiting on work) Very relible sports car. I love mine. I had a 2000 regular coupe that was fully loaded 5 on the floor. I traded it for a 2003 convertible also fully loaded but automatic. I love my Stangs. But you will pay more thant $40K for a Shelby 500. I have only had to do regular maintenance on mine and I now have over 90,000 miles on it. ( yes I am on the road a lot). It is relible and reasonable gas milage for a sports car.

They are very reliable cars, and they always have been.

The Shelby GT 500 is more than $40,000. The GT Mustang is closer to $30,000.

Yeah, not as reliable as some of the luxury cars around, but fairly reliable, in 5 years it'll still be running strong.

Had one, never had any problem with it at all. It was a Premium GT Convertible. Only sold it because wife couldn't get the car safety seats in the back for the Grandkids. Now we are both sorry we sold it.
