You have to have a priest to say mass and you will go to hell if you don't go to mass. Job insurance? or a real calling from God? What is the right answer? Why can't a lay person say mass? Why can't a mother priest?

One only needs to go to confession and attend mass once a year to be a Catholic in good standing.

Mass is a solemn rite. Your average joe can't consecrate the host. This is reserved for the men of God. Those who have given him their whole lives.

The Episcopal Church has ordained women. I have a very good friend Mother Pat. She says mass just like the priests of my denomination. In fact, her and Fr. Marty (Roman Catholic Benedictine) are almost as hysterical together as Fr. Marty was with Fr. Bart, God rest his soul.

Jesus did not commission women. So the Holy See does not feel it has the right to commission women either.

The ordination of women has driven a wedge between the Episcopalians and the Anglicans. Just as it has between American Lutherans and their European origins.

Believe me, my friend, your average priest has more to do than he can handle. The above mentioned Fr. Marty goes like gang-busters from the predawn hours til well after dark.

Mass is very important to me. It's not so important to some Catholics. Which makes me sad. If it's not of the most ultimate importance then clearly they don't understand it.

I go every day when I'm near enough to a church that has it early enough. Right now I'm stuck with only twice a week.

boo hiss.

Later gator.

Missing Mass is a sin. Jesus commanded us to "do this in remembrance of Him."
Jesus established the apostles as the first priests as is evident in scripture (Pentacost, the loaves and fishes, etc), that is why a lay person or woman cannot say mass.

Real calling. If The Church is who St. Paul says she is (The Body of Christ with Jesus Christ as the Head and all Baptized persons being the members) - then the Church by right and nature of HER calling has the right - nay - the duty - do decide, based on Scripture and Tradition, who or who can not be a Priest.
