Ants usually cause such irritation, I recommend going to the store, Wally world or a Pet store and get a small bottle of Oatmeal Shampoo, and hydrocortizone, both for dogs, and get a small bucket or any container and place the dogs paw in water for a minute, then get a little shampoo and rub it into and around his paw. Dry it with a towel. Later, once it gets completely dry spray some hydrocortizone, or rub some on the top side of his paw, and through the 'toes'. Even if the dog licks it all off the itch will be lessened. Good Luck! steve

ALLERGEYS is there anything in your back yard he could be allergic to? Treats maybe? Check! I have lived with a vet for 5 years The last time I saw this they where chewing the fur of their tail! The vet will give you the medicine sometimes a onece a week injection!

my large breed dog is doing the same thing on his paws, legs and tail. it turns out he has a grass seed allergy. if your dog has been around grass cuttings or long grass he might have the same problem. i had a word with his vet and i got to give him antihystemins 3 times for today only. but just ring your vet if you think this may be the problem and they will advise you over the phone. i didnt have to take him down

My viszla does this sometimes. Mostly in the spring, I think it is an allergic reaction to something he ran thru. This could be the case with yours too, keep an eye on where he walks to see if he does it more after roaming thru a certain area. You can get some lotion and put it on there to soothe the itch, not much cause he might lick some off! Good luck!

You should trim the fur, and always keep an eye on the lenght off their nails and cut them from time to time as well. Especially in the winter time, its important to trim the fur in between their toes, so that snow doesn't get stuck in there and make it painful for them to run..

allergies, boredom, ringworm, mange, why not go to the vet if you can't fix it yourself that's what good dog owners do.
