Food is very important in many cultures, For example, in India, may people won't eat any kind of meat. It is not true that Jewish people in general don't eat pork. Only the Orthodox Jewish people follow the Old Testament, which forbids, not only the eating of pork, but of any animal with a cloven (split) hoof. The Old Testament also forbids eating shellfish. (If you lived in a desert you would realize how fast shellfish spoil and you would understand the difference between eating pork and getting trichinosis, a disease these animals spread). Many followers of Islam, who lived in the same area, were wise enough not to eat food that spoiled easily in the desert sun. Regular fish could be dried and preserved for much longer than shellfish.

In this modern age, most Jewish people don't have to worry about this any more and neither do the Muslims. But if they take the Bible literally, like many Christians, they adhere to the old food laws.

Pork eating is an abomination! -Leviticus

That's right, eating pork is as evil (in the eyes of God, not rational human beings) as homosexuality between men.

Of course it's okay to eat pork, unless your religious beliefs state that it is unclean. Pork meat itself is harmless, as long as it's properly cooked--like any other meat.

I think so. But many religions don't allow it, depends on what you believe. Hindus usually don't eat beef or pork....but I do. It doesn't take away from God or anything...Do what you want.
