He attained so much sidhdhi that his feet were always above the ground as if he floated above the ground. But one day he left the service of his guruji and started accumulating his own followers. After some time he lost his feet and some disease of maggots got him. He was then seen begging for alms outside a temple.

What do you think caused his rise and then his downfall?
Do you think he had actually progressed in spirituality before his downfall?

Getting Siddhis is not a sure sign of spiritual progress... and there are many such examples where great siddhas turned into less than ordinary.

those who opt for siddhis always fall...those on real spiritual path gain siddhis but they dont care much for them and only show /use them for benefit of others...that too very rarely

Sidhis and spiritual powers are given to a person by God for serving humanity. But God keeps the right to withdraw what he has given if he sees that more harm is coming to people and people r losing track of Bhakti. The receiver that may be a Guru or his enlightened disciple when they become proud of their sidhis and feel that they r the power then God intervenes and destroys their ahankar (false ego). U must ve seen that every Guru's ( in today's world) image is tarnished at some point or the other and God shows His supermacy. So this is the case in ur question also. When sidhis r granted that is definitely development in spirituality as everyone does not get it. But their use will determine their true growth. But no one is above God. God is the ultimate. Gurus and enlightened people are only representatives of God.

I am sure he had progressed in his
spirituality ~ otherwise he would not have floated!

But when you go out into the world,
you must be armed ~ there is such
a pull on your 'sadhana' that the draw on your supply of energies becomes short and you fall into disrepair

You see, it is not really a downfall... it is that he was not strong enough to go out into the world yet ... and he took on more than he could manage, more than he had the strength to do...

It is said that when the coal is near the fire, it keeps its glow, but when it is far from the fire, it becomes cool ....unless it has become sublimated and can make fire for itself ... and that is the point of staying near a guru until you are ready to leave ... until you are 'afire' on your own ...

Even Vishnu Himself sleeps during the Summer on the Ocean of Milk ...until he awakens in the Fall of the year, and passes on His knowledge ..

Superior Complex
If you do some miracles or magics you are not god
so you should be in limits.

Even Lord Rama never knew he was an incarnation of Vishnu until his teacher Vashista said him.

As Lord Krishna says in Bhagavat Gita, it is his karma that he is perfroming. Good and bad, he has to face it.
