I won't be wearing any shoes in any place ever again, comfortable or not. I'm always barefoot already! There's nothing dangerous or unhealthy about it and if people think it's inappropriate, that is based on biases rather than facts. Feet are not that different from hands, they're not gross, there's nothing sexual about them either. Our skin is made to keep pathogens out, we're at far greater risk of picking something up through our hands, and the risk of injury is also very low since feet, especially when you're habitually barefoot, are much tougher than most people who rarely go barefoot believe! There are no laws or insurance regulations against bare feet at all.

It depends on the public place. If you are at a movie theater, orchestra, or restaurant where the lights are dim, then I say take your shoes off and hide your feet where others cannot see them. Let the tootsies breathe for a little while. If you are outside in a park on a summer day, then go barefoot. If you are in church, supermarket, restaurant, doctor's office, etc.... Then, I think you should leave your shoes on. Beauty/cute shoes come(s) with a price. People don't like to look at feet. It really is not attractive. It makes you look trashy.

I had this person sitting in front of me at a Texas Ranger's baseball game and she put her bare feet in the chair right in front of me. She kept waving her toes around. The bottoms of her feet were dirty and she had mutant toes. I couldn't concentrate on the game for those nasty a** feet looking at me. When in doubt, keep the shoes on. Please.

I would leave them on and suffer, but not for any ettiquette reason. It's hygienge anf safety.

You know why you have to wear shoes in a restaurant? Most people assume it's cleanliness, but no, it's because in restaurants forks, glasses and plates hit the floor, causing a potential for someone to get cut. The insurance companies insist diners wear footgear for that reason.

As far as barefoot in public - I guess at the beach it's acceptable - but even that makes me wary. Not every one is a germ phobe like me, and some are downright nasty. I've seen people use the restroom on city streets, spit, bleed, there is rotting garbage and moor oil, exhaust. Who knows were a herion addict is going to toss down a needle? Pin worms, a fomr of parasite, reside in feces and are transferred throught he skin when someone steps it in. Dog use the bath room, insects are crushed, and this is just on the street.

A mall is a little better, but it has been tracked through by lots of people who were walking outside and drag all that in on their feet.

Better you should by a bandaid dear - or if you must take off your shoes make sure they don't touch the ground till the shoes are back on.

If I was in a public place and had some extra money, I'd see if I could find a store and find some cushioned socks or better shoes. If I couldn't f ind anything, you better believe I would take them off. I have bad feet because I am diabetic. If my feet are hurting horribly, then I need to figure out what is wrong and deal with it fast.

First of all, I would not buy a pair of shoes, that are too small. I never wear brand new shoes,if I'm going to be doing a lot of walking, and yes,if my FEET were uncomfortable, then I would sit down somewhere, and take the shoes off,for about 5 mins.

If you're sitting, then go ahead and slip them off and place your feet on top of the shoes. This way you're not putting your feeto n the gorund, and not wearing your shoes either. I wouldn't walk around barefoot at a public place. For example, work is a def. no-no. Unless you work at theb each, leave your shoes on. Say if you're at the mall and your feet hurt. Don't take off your shoes and walk around barefoot. You leave yourself open to diseases and infections this way. Think of everyone that walks around in that mall and consider where they're feet have been. You don't want any of this on your feet and getting in your skin.

There is no doubt about this one. Take them off. Let people think what they want to. The older we grow, usually the less we care about what people will think. Your comfort is most important to you. People are not in your shoes (pun not intended) :)

What's wrong with taking our shoes off. Sure, in some situations we do need to follow etiquette and decorum, like say, in a highly formal setting if you are with managers etc. But even then, if it gets highly uncomfy, I'd covertly take my shoes off if I can help it (like, say, under the table).

If you are in a public place, find a place where you can sit down and take your shoes off and relax. Once I was in a grocery store, and my shoes were killing me. After much debating in my head, I said to hell with what others will think- and I took my shoes off and continued walking. What relief! Ofcourse I got some funny and curious looks, but hey, people do understand. Be yourself.

A public place...such as in a store? If you are in a store...then hold out until you at lest get outside....I have done this I Love shoes and tend to purchase PIA designs...Just suck it up and wait until you are out of the store. As soon as you can get them off....you will more than likely never see the people you pass barefoot again...

I would leave my shoes on, mainly because if you take them off, your feet might swell and you would not be able to get them on again. If they bother you that much, you need a bigger size or a different type of shoe that is comfortable in any situation.

Leave them on and suffer. Most public places do not allow you to be barefoot.
