Gradually this age comes to an end and we begin to move back to the Golden Age. Mankind finds it's true spiritual purpose. But before this happens something big is going to happen as well not all positive. Saw something about that alignment of the earth with the center of the galaxy. In Mayan lore I suppose this place is the home of demons or a gate to the underworld. Also some references to a returning creator god. Don't really know if anything will really happen. Prophecy has a bad track record. But this prophetic happening is an intriguing one.

The same thing that happened in 1999.

People will freak out, become paranoid, and then be disappointed when nothing happens.

The Mayan calendar is no more special than our own and it will not end. It will just move into the next time period. The Mayans already have prophesies about what will happen after that. Of course, these prophesies aren't likely to be true, but the Mayans wouldn't have made them if they thought the world would end in 2012.

It could be the year we discover irrefutable proof of life on other planets, or we're contacted by intelligent life. I think that will make a huge impact on the world and some will go nuts and commit suicide en masse in terror while others will be intrigued and decided to find out more. Still others will create a new religion and worship a new alien god and try to suck money out of sweet, naive people's bank accounts and, of course, the stock exchange will go insane.

I think we can handle THAT. But it WOULD be a huge global upheaval, as predicted.

We will survive.

At nine seconds and eight minutes past seven o'clock, on the eleventh day of October 2012, it will be 07:08:09 10/11/12. (Unless you write your day/month opposite like the yanks)

It may actually mark the begining of the Age of Aquarius. Astronomers have been unable to agree on which celestial event marks the rolling of the ages. If the sun aligning with the center of the Milky Way is the event, then we will have a flood of peace and caring flow throughout humanity.
