It is a addiction.
Your body creates a natural sedative to help the body rest. The more you sleep the more the body will create this sedative. So when you do wake up and try to get going you have left over chemicals in your body that sedate you and give you that sluggish feeling.
Only way to fix it is get yourself on a strict sleeping habit. Go to bed at a certain time and wake up at a certain time, no matter what. 6-8 hours is a good range. The first week of this regiment might be hard but you are training the body to "know" when it gets to sleep. Then your sleep will be more effective and you will find a new energy you have been missing.
Cheers

You may be depressed, I was, about 5 yrs ago, and all I ever did was sleep. I thought meds would help, made it worse. You might need to change something that is going on in your life. There is always a way. I would say go see a doctor AND go to a person about health food and herbal things. Sometimes it is something as simple as low iron, or not enough of the healthy stuff in your system that you need to regulate your sleep patterns and stuff. Doctors are so quick to prescribe.
Also, get a fun hobby that will make you stay awake. Like rock climbing at a local gym, skating, running, or swimming. Try something like that and it will improve. If you are overweight or eat unhealthy foods, you are more likely to become depressed and oversleep.
Getting a regular active hobby started will not only improve weight issues, but it is good for you mentally and emotionally. Good luck.

I too suggest you go to a doctor but as him to have you checked for sleep APNEA..... you will go to a "sleep center" where you will be hooked up to all kinds of wires and given a nice comfortable bed to sleep on.... during the night, they test to see how many times a night you stop BREATHING...... I HAVE sleep apnea, was tested and found out I wake up over 50 times a night because I just stop breathing... this CAN be very dangerous and the "sleeper" has NO recollection that he or she has woken up SOOO many times...they DO realize they wake up a few times during the night however....which is why they feel sluggish in the morning---they are getting totally interrupted sleep all night by these periods when they stop breathing. I have what is known as a C-pap machine now that I wear every night to bed---it's rather unattractive, but it allows me to sleep soundly all through the night... I entails a little box and a long tube with a mask on the end of it---the mask either fits over just the nose OR you can have one that fits over your mouth AND nose (that's the one I have because I'm a mouth breather and do not breathe through my nose)..... it's a bit hard to get used to but once you ARE used to it, you sleep so much better and are no longer sluggish during the day----I was getting so bad that I was falling asleep at my desk at WORK... that doesn't happen any more.

Go to the doctor and ask them to check if you are a diabetic...also try to find out if you are anemic...One sign of diabetes is being extremely sleepy...Please go to the doctor and tell them how you have been feeling...It might not be something too big...They can tell you how to manage the situation...tc and good luck
