I wouldn't drink any untreated river water (from any river or lake for that matter). Ecoli is present in even the most pristine environments due to animal droppings. Many other types of bacteria are present in any surface water.

Well, it's never safe to drink from any river. But no, the Mississippi is no worse than any other. You'd be drinking mud though, it's not pollution it's that the quickly moving water picks up mud and turns the river brown.

I wouldnt drink it..But I have heard that most of those river cities have water right from the Mississippi anyways. It just goes through a purification process.

I wouldnt try it no without distilling it first and even then i'd be iffy that water has been through alot of cities and it really starts here in Montana at the missouri which is fed by the milk river both along thousands of cow pastures and full af waste.

Any major river can (and does) pick up pollution at it travels along. Ground runoff, for one thing, sewage outfalls for another and a whole variety of other contaminants would make this highly inadvisable. .

Are you serious? o.o No! Don't try it! I don't even drink water from the sink. I always drink bottled water from Deer Park. Can't you get water from somewhere else?
