It's not like Christianity decided to play nice because they felt it in their hearts or some nonsense.

They lost political power and access to the armies before they started the "God loves you" PR campaign.

Before that, they were more than happy to burn an unbeliever at the stake, and even other believers.

Unfortunately you are mostly correct. Goes to show that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. However, there is a huge difference between Christianity and Islam. Jesus taught love your enemy, turn the other cheek, forgive others, treat others how you would like to be treated, charity, love, honesty, and mercy. Muhammed, on the other hand, taught a whole different set of values.

Now there is not dispute that the Christian Church has made many mistakes in it's history but these were done by sinful people prone, just like the rest of us, to corruption. It was NOT condoned by Jesus Christ Himself or His teachings. By contrast, fundamental Islam today is approved by the Quran and would have been acceptable to Muhammed. This is why there are so few reactions from the Islamic community when terrorist acts are performed.

Excuse me, when did we "lose" our political power? I haven't read the news this morning; I must have missed something. Do you really think that we are not the dominate political force in most western democracies (especially the U.S.)?

We have had political power even today, and we don't burn people anymore. We figured out on our own not to do that. If that was not true, then you would not have the freedom to post your questions on the Internet.

You know, the command from Jesus to "love your enemies" and to "do good to those who hate you" has always been a basic part of Christianity from the start. The fact that some Christians historically chose to ignore these passages in the Bible does not negate the fact that the " 'God loves you' PR campaign" has always been a latent part of Christian belief from the very beginning. It is nothing new. On the other hand, there is no counterpart to these commands in the Qur'an, as far as I know.

Islam, as a whole, apparently has not grown out of its adolescent desire to control beliefs of other people by deadly force. Maybe they will eventually, but as I noted, there is no passages in the Qur'an, as far as I known, that requires a good Muslin to "bless those who curse you".

I am not trying to bash Islam; just pointing out a fact.

----------------------------------------

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
~Jesus [Matthew 5: 43-48 (NIV)]

You should educate yourself before you embarrass yourself. The Catholic church put to the stake people of the middle ages for "heresy" (wanting to read the bible thus, go against the church). Jesus never beat or torched people into following Him. He never said to do anything in resemblance. Jesus had no armies or palaces. He has a kingdom in Heaven full of angels though, now.

The Catholic church is a pagan church set up by pagan Rome with a godly front. It was a means of keeping together the "Empire". It was better than to continue murdering Christians (aliens) in coliseums. Later it went on to murder the "heretics" (people of the middle ages). The pope is not the vicar of Christ. Priests cannot forgive sins. Mary is not in Heaven receiving prayer requests. Babies do not sin and are in no need for baptism. And the Sabbath is on Saturday.

When inquiring minds wanted to know the truth, they were killed. But, there are good people in the "church". They do good things for humanity and love their neighbors. But there will come a time when they will have to "come out of her". I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues;..." Revelation 18:4. And the only reason people will die a "second death" in the lake of fire after His (Jesus) return is because they choose to. Remember what He said..."Many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He!' and will mislead many". Gitcha mind right.

God bless

I believe you are more so, speaking about people holding political power in government. Americans/North Americans seem to forget that history provides a long track record of information exploiting just how cruel some people who called themselves Christians in the political world were. If you look carefully, you will see that it is still occurring in our own country in the political world and outside, everyday Christan people. We are no better then the people living in Islam we cannot judge them without pointing fingers at ourselves as American/North American people. We just learned how to cover up our dirty tracks, adding sugar coating comments. And, to deceive the public by glorifying the enemy as monsters!

Because we don't any more.

We USED to "burn an unbeliever", but not anymore.. Our world is changing, we need to grow up and get rid of the 'My way or die" mentality.

Christians have. Muslims, not so much.

We don't ignore it. We remember it because we don't want to repeat the same mistakes.
This is what happens when a denom. gets into politics.
Of course, when atheists are into it, we get it right back also.
