Most Decorative Res. hinges are not rated for much weight. Commerical and Architectural butt hinges are. 150 lb to 230 lb. There are lots of hinges options. How you will attach them and the space you have on the gate is the unknown.
Some Iron gate have the hinges welded on if there is not enough space to attach them with screws.
You will need to jag or screw throught into the studs of the wall also.

The hardware itself needs to withstand the weight, but how you anchor it to the wall is just as, if not more, important!
You are going to have to anchor your hardware to the studs in the wall, otherwise you are going to have a disaster in the making. I would also recommend hardware at the top AND bottom to help ease the load.
Another suggestion would be hang from the ceiling, anchoring large eye bolts into the studs. You could hang from heavy chain spray painted to the color of your choice.
Good luck!

I would suggest running a board across two studs and hanging it from the board. You could paint the board to match the wall or highlight the grate.
