and not just to what they agree with. I see so many bad smart a** answers with nearly 10 thumbs up's and only a couple thumbs downs. I don' think some people deserve the thumbs up thwt they are getting. Certain questions that seem to have the favor of Christians, when an atheist gives an answer that answers the question thourly but gives a little of their opinion get thumbs down from all the other Christians. It's the same the the way around (not targeting any particular group). If a answer is good, can we all give them a thumbs up regardless of what we agree with or not?

Same with stars too. People generally give it to people with the same opinions and it isn't necessaraly a interesting question.

Think about what you're asking...
A Christian response typically utilizes the concept of "God," which atheists are against. It might be a good answer from a Christian perspective, but it's not enough for others. I don't refrain from giving Christians a thumbs up if they respond rationally, however.
An atheist response does not necessarily deny God, depending on the situation, but often one can see the lack of God in the answer. Many Christians will automatically reject the response and give it a thumbs down.
When people have basic beliefs and those are thrown out as the basic premises of an answer, of course they're going to give a thumbs down, no matter how rational/correct that answer is.

It's pride at play here. It's very difficult to acknowledge when a person with an opposing view gives a good argument. I have an ego just like everyone else and this is a good reminder to give thumbs up where they're due, not just when I agree with the opinion.

I always give thumbs up to answers I agree with; those I don't agree with I don't consider to be good answers.
This isn't some sort of literary competition where you give thumbs up for the best composition - thumbs up signifies that you think the person made a good point or has a valid argument.
The flip side is that I often give thumbs down to those I disagree with and ALWAYS to people who answer questions with cut-and-paste because it's not their opinion.

I give thumbs up to answers I agree with, or to answers that appropriately address the question even if I don't agree with the person. I generally only bother with thumbs down when the answer is just plain wrong.

Why would I give a thumbs up to an answer I don't agree with? That is like saying, "Hey, that answer is really wrong, but you worded it well..."
Sorry, but if I disagree with an answer, I give it a thumbs down. If I agree with an answer, even if said in a "smart a**" way, I'll give a thumbs up.

Because a good answer would fall in line with what you think is true so giving a thumbs up to something you think is false makes no sense

People give thumbs up to those they agree with and thumbs down to those they dislike or disagree with, if you see one with more thumbs up, it means only that people agree with it, its no big deal.

Did you read my mind? I think that alot. I mean they can ask a question and I can give them 100% accurate answers and still not get 1 thumbs up...LOL. Then some joker with a smart a** remark gets "Best Answer". Yahoo should really rename this site and Questions and Opinions.

Most people do not truly worship, nor love God. A lot of them are on this site to merely start trouble. Even though this is a good way for Christians to pick each other's brain. Satan also uses this site. I too get upset. But that is the way it goes both here and in life.
