Massage can absolutely help you. Its why you see pro athletes getting a rub down after a big game or workout.

The whole physiology part is kind of complex...but I will explain.

It helps because when you work out, you make tiny little tears in the muscle, as well as the building up of metabolic wastes in the muscle. Massage increases the blood flow and circulation to the tissues, bringing fresh oxygenated blood to the tissue and helping to remove those wastes from the tissue, helping to ward of soreness post workout. (This is why after a real hard workout you are particularly sore...its from the buildup of lactic acid in the muscles..plus the tearing that comes with exercise.) This whole cycle is what makes a muscle cramp too...for whatever reason, the muscle can move the fluid and blood through the tissues like its supposed to. (Overwork...injury...lots of reasons this can happen) So you get a cramp, the muscle tightens up and hurts. Its a reflex type action...the muscle is trying to squeeze the wastes out on its own.

Ice and massage after a workout will help you recover quicker. You still need to rest between workouts to allow the body its time to recover naturally.

A swedish massage definitely helps with your muscles healing for your next work out. When you work out tearing occurs, so massaging increases circulation and helps the healing process. I also recommend a soak in a tub or a steam.

Yes, a good massage therapist can help you loosen your muscles and go refreshed. If possible, add aromatherapy and Reiki to massage.
